Here's how to remove UTHs from a tank safely!
I found a thread on my ball python forum I thought you guys would find pretty useful. Have you ever applied an undertank heater, and then want to remove it/move it? You can't just rip it off, that damages the heating element. Here's how. Warning: It requires the tank to be empty, haha. http://ball-p...

As for the Ranco - is it a proportional thermostat? Not that proportionality is necessary, but it is a very nice feature and can keep heaters from "flashing" on and off. Nope, not proportional. I do have one for my snakes, though, you can set it to only have a degree's variance. The little click wh...

I wish I could afford two, one for the snakes and one for the hermies (I have a self-wired Ranco thermostat for the snakes). Often I've thought of using a $50 Ranco thermostat and Flexwatt (Kieth, didn't you mention Flexwatt a few times?) for the hermit crabs, but at the moment, it's not financially...

I made a cute little stirfry for them tonight. It smelled so yummy, I wanted to eat it. That's rare with hermie food for me, haha. One shrimp, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, snappeas, I thiiiink green peppers, all fried with sweet almond oil. On the side was tangerine and some fresh flower petals I ...

I gave them salmon and sweet potato in one dish, and in another, barley, coconut, and corn meal. Since my crabbies are coconut addicts they all surrounded the shell full of the barley-coconut-corn meal mix. At first my big boy Leif was sitting in it, blocking everyone else access, but then he decide...

Alright. Again, thank you for all of this info! I guess I'm deeper into this than I planned. I was prepared for a relatively small sized crab for only a few years. But hey, this is fine too. He's done a lot of digging lately, and ravenously destroyed some salmon I put in there. But boy is he skittis...

Thank you SO much, MudCrabDude! None of the sites I visited mentioned that. I'll buy some gravel next time I'm out. Roughly how deep would it need to be? Twice as deep as him, like with hermies? How long do you expect him to live? I've read "about five years," but seeing as the same site apparently ...

I bought a patriot crab (pictures enclosed)
I was at my local pet store. In their invertebrate section I saw this absolutely gorgeous crab. The next day, after doing my research and setting a 'tat up, I went back and bought him today. I've named him Uncle Sam. Oh, one more thing: MudCrabDude, or anyone else who is as obsessed with non hermit ...

I have had three escapees, one escaped twice. The first was a small E. The second, a then-medium (now large) PP. Third, a small-medium E. The first time I found him right outside the back door, just sitting there. My dog must have carried him outside during a potty break. The second time I found him...

I just ordered $10 worth of shells. I can't wait for them to get here, they look so pretty! All I've had were cheap ones from craft stores or grubby shells the hermies were purchased in, so it'll be great to have some beautiful polished ones. I decided not to get any ones for my jumbo, and instead o...

Yesterday I sent CreepyCrawly 17 rollie pollies (she only asked for 10, but I expect casualties in the shipping process) and tomorrow we should expect a report and see if shipping them works. I broke up a piece of the water gel into about eight little pieces, because I didn't see that post until tod...
