I have never used an iso tank for anything except having somewhere to put the crabbies in when I'm deep cleaning, and as something for my son to take a couple to school in for show and tell. I don't like painted shells b/c there is a valid concern over the safety of the paint. I just don't see how the paint can adhere permanently in an environment that is supposed to be so humid. Also I wonder about the crabs getting stuck to them. Painted shells also make the crabs appear more like toy...

We have a second floor and they love it! It consists of a couple of plastic suction cup soap dishes (shell shops), a 2 level climbing rock, a net, and cholla wood leading up to it all on both sides. I've used playsand sanitized in the oven mixed with EE. I use a slightly strong saltwater solution to rehydrate everything, and I've never had a mold problem. Salt seems to be a good control for mold! Is Forest Bedding better than EE? I read some old posts about EE not being 100% coconut fiber, and ...
