you can find cholla wood at michaels for pretty cheap and it makes a great ladder. You can also knit a ladder out of hemp or jute, just make it long and skinny

Just to add: for the 2L pop bottle barrier make sure its super super clean and remember to remove the cap so that there is air flow to the sand!

When you say put put some EE on top, do you mean you covered him? If so, I wouldn't do that. Crabs make tunnels that humans can't replicate, so covering him doesn't provide any benefit at all to him

i dont think its that bad for them though because i dont think they would continuously do it if it was but who knows

wow this is a great idea! i ALWAYS have problems with the poops pushing substrate into the water dishes
did you use aquarium sealant to secure it or did you just stick it in?

what kind of heating pad was it? ultratherms, as i have read, are a big step above normal heating pads
it could have also been defective, like getting too hot or something.. i will change my words to very rarely!

UTH's were made to go on glass so no they wont break the glass. as well they dont dry out the sand any more than a heat lamp would

dont cover them up! they make their own special tunnels that lets them keep an air pocket with them so they can breath. we cant mimic what they do. if you want to give him a head start though, you can dig a shallow hole and stick him in. that way he can choose to continue it or he can get out with a...

nope!
i soaked it in salt water and nuked it just a little bit.. maybe about 15 seconds
then i just put it in
i spray it with fresh water every other day to re moisten it

i have a 29 gallon tank and i use one large UTH (which hardly works) and a 75W night glow bulb
my tank is always between 75-82 depending on whether its warm in the house or whether its night or day
