Glass shell video

Did have a bath before filming. But because of the surface of the glass not much sticks to it. I did post another short film on Youtube you might be interested in also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDjuvJQH ... re=channel

Hi,

Yes those are my shells selling in Europe. I did make more E shells. They are getting closer but still not quite good enough yet so I will keep working on it.

replacement if they don't move in

HI ALL, I would be willing to exchange the glass shell for another if the Hermit crab does not move in. I have had around 50 crabs who have chosen these glass versions over the natural shells. this is over a period of 10 years. I usually have 5 to 6 crabs only at one time. How is that for a bet! Rdug1

Thanks for all your great comments! Good and Bad. Hermit crabs have evolved over the 1000's of years they have been around. New research is being done to see where the genetic link was that made the abdomen soft unlike the upper body and claws that have a strong exoskeleton. Maybe 1000's of years ag...

i would think glass is not as porous as shell and it would be to hard for the crabs to eat a piece. rdug1 are you familiar with E crabs and the fact that they dont like the inside of a shell? I could mail you out a couple of e crab shells so you can see what i mean. If you can come up with a shell ...

Cracking or chipping

Interesting. Over the time that you have used these shells with hermit crabs you havent had problems of the glass cracking or chipping with their everyday antics of falling and hitting the tank walls or decorations. I know that mine actually remodel the rim of their shells, by pinching off chunks o...

Glass Shells

The shells are not painted the color comes from colored glass melted into the shell at high temps so it will not come off, it is part of the glass when it is melted in. The real Gold and Platinum are also fused on the surface of the glass and melts into the glass and will not come off. The decoratio...
