E's break the spiral out of their shell
Hey guys, I had read a couple discussions on here in the past about Ecuadorians liking d shaped shells with the spiral broken out of them. I remember there was some debate over whether or not they found shells in this condition or if they created the shells themselves. I haven't been on here in a wh...

Thanks Mudcrabdude. It's amazing they've made it this far. I started out with them in a 10 gallon with shallow dry calcisand and all commercial food and couldn't figure out why they all stayed huddled together all the time and never moved. Thank God I was able to find internet info and forums like t...

All 4 of my E's are wearing King Crown shells. You can get them from HCP. Hey all, I have one more of my original Purple Pinchers who I've had for about 6 years now who I had forgotten to post a "baby shoes" picture for. This is Rufus and he is my largest Purple Pincher. It's crazy to see how much he has grown since I first got him. He can't even fit a foot in that origin...

I think Violas may be my favorite crabs because they have such drastic color changes between molts. Every time one goes down to molt, I'm just holding my breath waiting to see what they'll come up looking like. Check out Makoto Nagano before and after his first molt: http://i283.photobucket.com/albu...

Here's a picture I took in Antigua showing the substrate where I saw Caribbean hermit crabs. Keep in mind the crabs I saw were mighty young, so they may move further inland as they get older. The soils further inland had a bit larger of a soil component in the mix with the sand. Looks to me like the...

Hermit Crabs in their natural environment
Hey all, My fiance and I just got back from a week long vacation in Antigua. While I was there, I was on the constant lookout for Purple Pinchers in the hopes of getting to observe them in their natural habitat. Here are some pics of the tiny crabs I saw and the habitat where I found them: http://i2...

Nostalgia - Baby Shoes (Updated 8/12/10)
Hey all, I've been thinking about making this thread for a while now, so here it finally is. I've had five of my Purple Pinchers for over 5 years now. They're my first Hermit Crabs ever. When I got them they were so tiny and I was amazed at how much they grew with each molt. I've held onto the origi...

I think this is very interesting and I hope I'm not hi-jacking, but I was reading the original thread from a while back and it seemed like the majority of crabbers were maxing out at 3 years for a crab's lifespan back then. We've discovered a whole lot of important information since then. I'd be int...
