Unsure About Leaf Litter

I'm looking at adding leaf litter to my tank. I know people recommend gathering from the backyard, but I know my parents treat the trees around my house with weed and bug killer. I'm not confident enough in other trees in the area and assume they are treated the same. If I can't find a safe, local p...

Isopods for new tank?

Hey guys, so I'm currently working on upgrading from a 55 gal to a 75 gal. Once I have this tank set up and running smoothly I would really like to introduce isopods in to the tank. However, before I do, I've got a few questions. How many would I want to introduce to the tank to start with? I see th...

Supporting a Crab after Interrupted Molt

I came home to find my E without his shell, perched up in one of the trees. He's been MIA for roughly the last two or three months, molting. I moved him to an iso tank and he has since reshelled. He has almost no color to him and still seems to be soft. The tip of a back walking leg is broken off be...

Re: Sudden Fighting after Two Years - Who to Iso?

Gaia is officially in the time-out tank. I was thinking about leaving her for a week and then reintroducing her. Is that too soon? I've never had to isolate for aggression before so any advice on reintroduction is much appreciated.

Re: Sudden Fighting after Two Years - Who to Iso?

I should also mention this is not the first time Gaia has given me trouble. Two years ago, when I first got her, I got her with another E. The other E was torn to shreds about a week after adoption. I figured it was a surface molt gone wrong or something. A little while later I got another E. This o...

Sudden Fighting after Two Years - Who to Iso?

So I've got myself a bit of a problem. Gaia, an E, and Zeus, a PP, suddenly started fighting a few days ago. I'm not entirely sure how it happened. They've been happy tank mates for years now, but on Friday of last week something change. I woke up in the middle of the night to Gaia chirping. I found...

Re: More Activity Because of No Fake Lighting?

I haven't tried a UVB light on my tank since it would be difficult to mount inside the lid with my current set up. I wonder if you only had a UVB light and no other lighting if that would get an even bigger increase in activity? When I rearrange their tank I might try and add the UVB light in and se...

More Activity Because of No Fake Lighting?

When I upgraded to my 55 gallon tank, I got a Ultratherm to heat my tank, doing away with using heat lamps. I did keep the lighting from the lamps for viewing purposes, but positioned them away from the tank far enough and dimmed the pad enough to get the tank's temps just right. As was normal for m...

Re: screen name meanings? post here!

Mirror = when I was younger I was terrified of mirrors akay = my gaming user name is Kaykami and people took to calling me Kay, so I wanted to add that in to mirror. I just didn't like the way mirrorkay sounded so I added the a between the two. And for Kaykami, one day at school I got some cake on m...

Re: Unexplained, Constant Chirping

I do believe he can feel the change in pressure and that is what he is reacting to. Though, I am curious why he doesn't chirp when warm fronts move in. All the same, I think I have myself a nighttime weather forecaster in my midst. If I ever need to know if it will be colder the next day, Helios wil...

Re: Unexplained, Constant Chirping

After keeping track of Helios's chirping for a while, I do think it is weather related. Not necessarily wind though. He has been relatively quiet since the crazy wind stopped. However, he does chirp before cold fronts move in. The day before the forcast shows snow, Helios is ALWAYS chirping at night...

Re: Unexplained, Constant Chirping

The wind was calm last night. The wind is picking up again tonight, but nothing like it has been. However, tomorrow night the wind should have gusts in the 90s again. I'll keep a log for a few weeks and see if that is what has been making my little guy so talkative!
