Re: I think I may have a blind crab... UPDATE NOV 8, 2011
Great documentation of her eye progression. I'm happy she can see. I did the same "vision test" on my female Indo. Her eyes were terribly damaged in a fight (in the wild) when I bought her. She is blind. I'm currently anxiously waiting for her to finish her first molt with me. In the pics showing th...

I zoomed in on your straws toe nails: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l210/jabby77/4ever2-1.jpg The second pi...
Re: Molted?
Your strawb's toe nails look plenty sharp to me especially in the first pic. His ultra bright red coloring (may darken a bit over time) and long antennas point in that direction too. Congrats! What a gorgeous straw! :cloud9: Give him a quick bath to remove any if at all molt scent. Then put him in w...

Re: Mites What worked what didnt..
I thought I should mention my experiences with mites from petCo. I once bought a perlatus that had a huge red colored mite attached on his right gill area. It was unphased by sea salt soaks. The way I removed it was using a moistened cotton swab. This particular perlatus crab was very friendly so sh...

Re: Mites What worked what didnt..
Hey fellow crabbers! I was asked to offer my experience(s) with mites that I dealt with twice this past year. Here's some background info: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=82284 `What species of crab(s) were you treating for mites and did you notice that certain colore...

Re: Defect Collection
Wow cool pics! Atleast crabs can regenerate limbs and look good as new in just a few molts. Keep us posted on their progress.

Re: The molting smell...question
The best way I can describe it is standing at the shore and smelling the sea air. It would not stink up the entire room or tank since he is buried. Musky odors may mean something else is going on, like low air circulation.
