Re: Jumbo Molt Behavior
I wanted to give some info I have learned about jumbo molts. I have had 2 of my jumbos for 7 years they started as smalls.I keep logs of their molts and noticed the changes when they reached jumbo size. So that others with jumbos do not get concerned during their pre molt behavior you should know t...

Re: Oops. Molting crab was under the water dish!
You can use a turkey baster to suck all the old/dirty water out and replace with new,to not move the dish.

Wouldn't the brown color be from the tannin in the wood? I know when I soak cholla or mopani or coconut huts the water turns brown. It is natural.

Re: Need help with very bad limbs condition crab
I asked the seller where are they shipped from. He said they are shipped from US to where I live Thailand. that's half the world....anything to do with that travel distance :? Also his claim is likely to be true because we don't have purple pincher in Thailand Hmmm... We don't have them here in the...

Fix for no climbing space
I want to share an idea I have done to help give my jumbos climbing space. First off not all of us can have giant mega gallon tanks because of either space or being able to physically maintain such a large tank.I am the later,I weigh 80 lbs. With having jumbos most of the space in your tank is reserv...

Re: tunnels and digging
Crabs love to molt under the water dish,I believe it is because of the protective cover and the moisture. It can be a problem if they do molt directly underneath and are somewhat exposed near the surface because it is hard to make water changes.Just use a turkey baster to suck the old water out so as...

Re: Dry sea sponge
It really is not a problem having the sponge on the substrate, the sponge stays cleaner than leaf litter on the substrate.I found many finger sponges on the beach and used them for climbing and they sat on the substrate. I hope people will stop giving advise that all sponges are bad, this usually occu...

Re: Dry sea sponge
It would be best to keep the sponge off of the damp substrate.I keep mine in a deep caddy(2nd.level) on the uth side.I will mist them sometimes.I had one crab that would shred them into a fluff and nest in it.I also keep one in the shell shop and a dry one in with the bark and leaves caddy that they...

Re: HELP! TIME SENSITIVE. Weird Gel Sacs
The pink reptile-calci sand can be very harmful for your crabs; when wet it can harden like cement, trapping your crabs, not to mention being extremely overpriced. Another thing is your sponge: either you need to clean it everyday by washing it hot water, then putting it in the microwave when it is...

Re: Hibernation state?
Maybe a different type of crab? I remember seeing a story about crab vending machines in Japan or China. The crabs are kept at a low temp. inactive but alive until someone comes to buy them for dinner. It was a way for people to get fresh crab that normally was not available.Just a thought. Can not re...

Ok, couldn't wait. Went into panic mode and went ahead and dug up Chime. Found a healthy, post molt crabbie with hard shell, brushed his big pincher and it opened up wide! Also found a small part of his exo leg tip and looks like he also started to eat some of the big pincher exo!! http://i64.tinyp...

Re: Secure screen lid help
You can try to cut a pc. or two of plexi to cover screen and still allow the crabs to climb on lid. This is of course is if you are not using a heat lamp which you should not need on a 10.You can buy 2 packs of tank clips or piano clips to hold it down, the extra thickness helps keep the clips on.You ...

Re: Crabs seem to dislike beach sand/ seawater.
In many places, it is against the law to remove sand or shells from the beach. Before doing so you would need to check beachcombing laws. As discussed above, contaminants and dying organisms in a closed environment are a concern as well. HCA's official recommendation is 5:1 playsand to Eco Earth. S...
