Fight Aftermath

I finished moving into my new 65 gallon tank last week and took advantage of the warm weather yesterday to pick up two new crabs to occupy it. My jumbo, Roscoe had spent all yesterday and last night in the moss pit while the newbies (having been dipped in the water dish to smell right) explored. Tod...

Razor blades! I knew I was forgetting something. The holes are about 18" and 20" above the baseplate.

Wash & Prep Old Aquarium

I managed to pick up a old 65 gal for a steal and am prepping it for use. From vaguely-remembered browsings of related threads years ago, I'm planning to wash off the various residues with water, distilled vinegar and elbow grease, but before I embark, I was wondering if there have been any recent a...

Photobucket kicked the bucket. Looks like you have to find a new host for those pictures.

Re: Entire Immature Walnuts

As recently as the turn of the century, ketchup was pretty much a generic term for sauces containing vinegar, with mushroom and walnut being popular bases. It was only recently that tomato ketchup became synonymous with the term. I found the recipe in an old edition of The Joy of Cooking, of the vin...

Entire Immature Walnuts

I'm setting up a batch of young walnuts fermenting for walnut ketchup, and it occurred to me the crabs might like one (unfermented). The only info I can find on safety refers to mature shelled English walnuts, not whole black walnuts with husk and shell, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea as t...

Re: screen name meanings? post here!

Well, my name is Sach and "OfSCP" is of Sach's Crab Page, the name of my FB profile for my website of the same name; I am all about crabbies, everywhere :) Whoah, whoah, wait a minute here. Was I the only one here getting visions of unobserved statues, never-ending stairways, murderous lizards and ...

Re: screen name meanings? post here!

It was originally meant to create a hippy-esque text prompt in my buddy's Halo game upon my character's death (i.e. You killed someone, man!) I grew to like the sound, like an incredibly generic superhero sometimes summoned serendipitously ("I need someone, man." *some dude in a poorly painted leota...

Re: I saw one of my clypeatus hunting isopods last night!!!

That's one of those giant antarctic marine isopods, right? I wonder if it would be worth my while to get a colony for my 20g? The little ones that is! I doubt I could fit one of those suckers.

Re: Growth Rate

I seem to recall reading somewhere (I've entirely forgotten where, but it was a research paper or something of the same flavor) that among PPs smaller crabs are biased towards male while larger crabs are biased towards female, it very well could have been the reverse. You know what, I'll do some dig...

Wow. I always look forward to your pictures and am never disappointed. I have never before seen a PP who looked like Floyd, he looks like cold, old steel, beautiful.
