I've since added more substrate, it was a bit shallow in this pic. My crabs are on the smaller end of the size spectrum though, so it's okay for them.

Re: Crab Handling
I took one of mine out and handled him. He was the most outgoing of all my crabs, so I thought he'd be a good candidate. He was quite active, crawling all over me. I put him back in the crabitat after 10 minutes or so of semi-vigorous activity, and he buried himself for several days. I'm assuming he...

Re: ssuction cup frustrations!
I have suction cup problems too, especially on my fake plants. The ones that the plants come attached to are pretty pitiful, and fall down almost daily (regardless of crab activity). For some reason it REALLY annoys me. I got a suction cup that was attached to a sponge you'd stick in your shower. It...

Re: I think I just saw my crabs doin' the dirty! She has egg
I'm sorry if I missed this as I read through these 5 pages somewhat quickly, but as far as I knew, these eggs hatched in the water. Assuming you didn't have to leave, which really sucks , how did you plan on accomplishing the egg laying part of the experience? This was a very cool thread btw!

If your substrate is that deep and the top layer is still a good dampness for caves/tunnels I wouldn't worry about substrate deeper than that. The top couple inches is what would be evaporated first. Most crabitats are some form of enclosed environment so even some of the water that does evaporate u...

Here are some microscope pics. :) Even if they don't help anything, they are still cool to look at! Microscopes are one of the best inventions ever. I concur. I have no idea what this shows, but it's interesting. Thanks for posting these. I was secretly wishing I could see them somehow when you men...

Is silicone boil-proof?
I'm thinking about using silicone to make a ramp of rocks down into my salt and freshwater pools. Currently, to clean these pools, I take the pools out and boil them. I figure that's a good, safe way to clean everything.
I wonder though, will boiling water undo the silicone? Anyone know? Thanks!
