Re: Finally added isopods to my tank!!!
Rolli Pollis/Pill Bugs/Isopods from most areas in the US aren't really set up to do a tropical set up.I kept some for about a year before they all died off. Something about the humity/heat just isn't perfect for the standard grey ones. I hope they do good in your tank, but you may want to look at th...

Re: Help! Wee crabby abandoned his shell!
Hurrah! He went back into his shell! I know they were pretty active today cause all the shells are all over the cage. And the food bowl is empty. I'm pondering if my salt water pool was to deep for him and he abandoned his shell instead of drowning. I don't think it is, but I've added a stick/rope s...

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7694/17293951481_e7ae458f48_s.jpg crab by reichiere , on Flickr I think that's him. I grab some photos last night. I pretty much assumed it was related to PPS. I pretty much did the glass method this morning, just didn't cover him. I thought about moving him into his ...

Re: keeping violas and indos in same tank
I've offered him several shells of all different sizes, smaller, bigger, everything. Including the same type of what he's was in currently at that time. I don't think he was attack crabs for their shells. He'd go after everyone, ones smaller then him that he couldn't fit into and he went after my gi...

Re: keeping violas and indos in same tank
I have a viola in a tank with PP. He's way more aggressive then the others and is a bigger protein eater. I've had to separate him before when he's tried to pull other crabs out of their shells, usually before he molts. Since he's the only one I think I'm going to rehome now with some other violas i...

Re: Chirping
I had a pile of crabs last night during a cleaning session and the bottom one chirped too! But I've only had two other chirping episodes one was when my Viola went on a rampage and was attacking everyone. The other was when I gave them a left over pinkie from feeding my snakes. OMG I could hear them...

Wee crabby abandoned his shell!
I just picked up three little guys yesterday at Petco. So I've had them less then 12 hours. I set them up in a little quarantine tank before I move them over to my big tank. I gave them a bunch of shells, food, a bowl of salt and regular water. I don't have heaters set up on my tank as the room I ke...

Should I move him?
My crabbies have a medium exoterra bowl for their fresh water. It's in the shallow end of the substrate in tank. I left it that way intentionally and with what I assumed was not enough room for a crabby to get under and molt. However about a week ago I picked it up and my voila Single Spike was unde...

I bought one of these on clearance... I washed it but I noticed when it's moist the sides are sticky/tacky. Stuff doesn't stick to it but if you touch it when it's moist your hand kinda sticks for a second before coming off. It's like it has a syrup coating on it, or like almost dry paint. When it's...
