By the looks of it, I have a bully.
The crab that I think attacked and stole another hermit crabs shell, looks like it's turning into a bully. It refuses to let anyone near the shell it stole, but it hasn't changed into it. I just watched it stalk a crab, and then lunge itself at it. I've never seen a hermit crab move so quickly nor s...

Re: Strange situation
that's what I was leaning towards. Their shells are on a little plate thingy close to where the crab is, and they like to bury shells. I just wanted to see what others thought of it XD

He's moved again.
Yeah, I try to let my hermit crabs go as undisturbed as possible.
Teenies are really easy to find here. Aussies are normally slower growers and smaller then other crabs.

Strange situation
I've noticed I have a little window. In the centre is a crab. It's sitting in the shell, but I'm still able to see its legs, it's perfectly intact, but pretty pale. It doesn't react to me coming close to it. I haven't seen it move at all, but sometimes when I check on it, it is in a different positi...

Re: white fuzz comes with a surface molt?
White fuzz sounds like mold
If it is mold, then I'd say the crab is dead.

Re: Spider has lost the plot & I don't know what to do with
In a lot of animals, sudden aggression is a sign of pain. Maybe something is wrong with him? I've heard antenna tapping is a way of showing dominance. Is he initiating them ? Turning their back and running seems like he has won.. He may be trying to assert himself as alpha crab. If that it is the ca...

Re: How to de-paint a shell
Paint loosens and peels when heat is applied. People use them to remove paint when renovating. You might want to wear heat proof gloves or just stick a hair dryer, because I'd assume the shell would get very hot.

Re: How to de-paint a shell
I tried to sand a shell that had a clear sealant over them, but it just scratched the sealant, but didn't really work.
Another thing that might help is a hairdryer or heat gun. ( I think there are owns out there specially designed to remove paint)

Re: flying with crabs
Canada may be more relaxed, but I know in Australia, if you're flying domestic your pets go into baggage, ( the only exception is service dogs.) and even then, it's only from certain airports. If you're flying international, all pets have to go freight. But I do know some airlines have heated areas ...

Re: I think I may have a blind crab... UPDATE NOV 8, 2011
I might be just seeing things, but to me, it seems as her eyes went back into the stalks, in the first molt, and then they seem to be coming out more and more. Would it be possible that her old, damaged eyes had dropped off and she grew new ones? because it seems as if the eyes are 'growing' out of ...

Are these those pools that had the really thick bits of silcone on it? Maybe they never cured properly?
