Re: crab body parts in the sand!

Well I was impatient and ended up changing the sand out. Except for the spot with the inactive crabs. Hopefully they will be alright.
I feel bad for my other crab though...he's all alone at the moment.

Re: crab body parts in the sand!

Playsand is perfectly safe for hermits. The sand from HCP is playsand and cocofiber premixed. Yes, playsand is what I've been using from the start. Works great. :) But I felt like splurging this time. :P It says on their site that it's clean Florida sand...I assumed it was beach sand...but hmmmm......

crab body parts in the sand!

Hi, I was getting rid of the sand in my 10 gallon tank & I found some body parts. Claws and stuff. Freaky lol Is this normal? I'm guessing my crab Sean has been molting down there. I didn't dig up anymore because I'm scared I'll disturb him. I also found another crab (Eric lol) in his shell ...

Re: Best cheap $ hygrometer/thermometer

Thanks for the advice everyone. :) Maybe I will try putting a strong magnet outside the tank at some point. And wow...that is one cool thermometer/hygrometer. Sounds neato. Perhaps I'll buy it next time... But for now I'm working with what I have...already spent enough on these crabs...My hermitcrab...

Re: Is saran wrap safe for my crabs??

I ended up just taping most of my lid (sticky side out) with packing tape. Hopefully that's safe? The plastic wrap annoyed me. lol

Re: Best cheap $ hygrometer/thermometer

Thanks guys. Maybe I will try the velcro but too lazy right now. lol

And yeah I propped mine up in the corner on the cocohut. Was fine till my crab went over there and caused trouble. Crabs will be crabs.

Glue safe?

Weird question but I'm scared I was boiling my hermit crab shells to clean them & added 3 stand-up silk aquarium plants to the mix. Well the plants fell apart from the high heat and came off their stands. I guess they were glued to their stands & some glue pieces ended up in the water and on one of ...

I just bought it at Wally world today... :P
How do you guys set it up in your tank? I noticed it has a magnetic backing. But my aquarium isn't magnetic. lol

Is this the one?

I think this is the same one I had before. It was good but broke after a year or two. Maybe because it fell off the top of the aquarium. lol

Is saran wrap safe for my crabs??

I have a 10 gallon tank with a mesh lid, so I wrapped most of the lid in Glad wrap. One of my crabs loves to climb upside down on the lid. But now it's partially covered in plastic wrap. What if he eats it or something? Safe? :crabblush:

Best cheap $ hygrometer/thermometer

I have a 10 gallon tank and need a cheap thermometer/hygrometer that will work and work well. :D I've had a zoo med one that didn't seem accurate and a digital one that stopped working. Thank you. :cheer:
