Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
I'm sorry you had such a rough time with LHC. I've been through this a couple times now, and just know this is how things will be. If you go in and expect the worst but hope for the best, the let down is more manageable!! It's really probably better off that they aren't at risk with the weather, tho...

Re: Straw (perlatus) over 5 years?
I have a jumbo female who has been with me for over three. She came from LHC as well and is a serial molter. She was a teeny when I got her and regularly goes down every three months to molt. Every big straw I have spends a large amount of time in the salt water and definitely spends a good bit of t...

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
Hey guys, this has gotten super off topic. Can we please keep this giant thread to reviews and updates of LHC?

Re: Rescued crabbies from outside, never owned one before!
You've gotten a lot of really good advice. I just have two things to say. 1. Thank goodness you found these guys, and 2. thank goodness you were able to find the HCA get the advice you need to give them the life they deserve. Most people would have just walked by. Congratulations on your new little ...

Re: Trapped in shell
I've found most of my crabs will switch into a "too big" shell just before going under for a growth molt. They tend to come up fitting into the new shell perfectly. Hopefully your little guy knows it's in a safe place now and is getting ready! Good luck!

Re: Viola behavior
I definitely would put that off until it gets warmer. If you are ordering from LHC, they ship from New York. I ordered straws from my local pet shop last winter and they were dead on arrival from the cold. I felt terrible. It's too much of a risk this time of year, despite talks of heat pads, etc.

Re: New Strawberry Owner
I've had pretty good luck with my straws too. Scarlz said it best. Bigger straws hold their color better in captivity. I have a jumbo that I raised from a teeny. She molts every few months, and is a bright orange/red? The others that I bought as adults are still the deep red color they originally we...

Re: What am I doing wrong?
First question, and I may have missed this, but what are you using as a lid on the tank to hold the heat in? Your crabs are very new, so they may be destressing at this time. Unfortunately, survival rate can be pretty low for these little guys. The one who dug down is probably destressing or molting...

Re: How do people get exotic Breeds?
You can occasionally get straws, ruggies, and violas at local pet shops. I've found that I've had better luck at mom and pop shops. If you can make a personal connection with the owner, they might be able to special order them for you. Many have ordered through livehermitcrabs.com but their reviews ...

I use a locker shelf, which is very similar. They are pretty cheap so I just replace mine once a year or so. I've never had any issues with it, and it works out great for me! Right now mine holds a shell shop, food, and a small moss pit. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/09/062c6d986f1fa03a39b...

Re: Rough couple weeks at the 'tat!
Kuza, that's awful. I've really enjoyed mine, but I am afraid they are just really fragile. I do think I saw one of those long clear stringy worms that you had in my salt water pool the other day. I'm hoping it was isolated, but I doubt it.

Re: Rough couple weeks at the 'tat!
I woke up this morning to something really awful. One of my blues was unshelled in the salt water pool dead. I worried last week because he moved into a smaller shell, similar situation to the first blue I lost. I'm down to three. Two buried under today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for healthy mo...
