Frankencrab
I wasn't quite sure where to put this but I know lots of people wonder if their molter is dead or alive so maybe they'll find this helpful. As posted in my emergency and other threads, I had one crab streaking while the other was also underground. Both were presumably molting. I isoed the streaker w...

Re: One Dead and the Other?
Thanks Wordesorel, schrödinger's crab really describes it well. I will do a good surface clean and then wait.

One Dead and the Other?
So, as some of you know from my emergency thread, I had both my crabs underground. One, I found underground naked so I dug him up and isoed him. A week or so ago, I confirmed that he was dead. Now, the other crab is still underground and I'm not sure if he's alive or not. My assumption is that there...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
Just an update for anyone who was following this. I looked again today and he'd dropped legs. Unfortunately, he was dead. He didn't smell because my isopods and made a home near him and were using him as a yummy food source. No wonder they looked so healthy. (Ick). The only remaining question is if ...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
It's a worrying that he hasn't appeared to move for this long. Has he eaten? Maybe if you can't watch him at night you could try setting up a camera to watch him It is. Like I said, he's not dead because he moves his leg if I'm near but it does worry me. I don't think I have a camera that could wat...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
So, if anyone is following this, he's still in the same spot. I haven't seen him move to eat or drink but he still twitched his foot when I removed food from near him. I'm trying to keep food handy but otherwise leave him alone.

Re: Surviving the suburban wilds
That's impressive! Was it warm and humid out? I live in a very dry area and I couldn't see them surviving the 15C temps plus like 10% humidity.

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
If he's eating, it's not much at all. At least not that I've noticed. :/ But, I hope he's just gathering his strength and not slowly dying.hermitcrablover2 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 2:25 pmYay!If he's not seeming as active as normal and is eating a lot, he might be preparing to molt?

Re: Picky Crab- Need help finding right shell, please
I thought I measured correctly before and got ones that were way too small. Can I post pics of the measurements. Maybe I measured wrong? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'd check a few things about measurements. Make sure you're using the same units (cm vs inches) and double check that the measu...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
Just an update, he's still alive but he has barely moved although I'm pretty sure he has eaten. Still worried about him but so far, he's holding on.

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
Oh good news so far, fingers crossed! Be sure to give some high energy foods, like honey and peanut butter. I'll be giving him some new food later this morning. He hasn't moved much but he seems okay and I think he ate the raisins (his favourite) earlier. I dusted them in the healthy healing mix I ...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
Have you had a peek at our 'naked crab' care sheet? I know you've been on here almost as long as I have, so you may already know all this stuff. But I would put him and the shells with just a mm or two of dechlor water in the bottom of the container. You can use a small container and put it right i...

Re: Naked crab with Black Lump on Side
I hope you're right. I was pretty worried that it was something else. It's not too deep right now because honestly, I thought he was going to pass away overnight. But, he's not reshelled and looking alright so I'm fixing it up better. Unfortunately, it's not a great iso. My crabs outgrew my previous...
