Re: What's the white fuzz
Clean out your food dish especially. You shouldn't leave food in there for more than a day. Moisture + food = mold.

Re: Opinions, crabs have good sense of smell or not?
Crabs can't really smell like you or me or a dog, they can taste. They rub their antennae on the food and them put it in their mouth to identify it. They like potent smells. You gave them a lot of food all at once, just one of those at a time is fine. Crabs only eat about a pea-sized amount of food....

Re: Weird little things on the glass...
The real question is do you want bugs in the tank? If not you will have to clean the tank thoroughly and replace the substraite as well as making sure they are not harming the crabs. Most people on here just say if they are not harming the crabs you are fine, but I personally do not like seeing mite...

Freeze dried crickets, mealworms, shrimp and fruit they like. They also like my mom's meatloaf, sweet potatoes, blue chips, eggs, chicken, and cheese.
For some reason I have never had a crab like melon or cucumber. I know some crabs eat them, mine never did.

Re: For shell collectors
Muriatic acid is sold at Lowes with the turpentine and acetone paint removers. It comes by the gallon and can be somewhat strong as it's used to etch concrete. What it does is take the top layer off the shell. You will want to pour it on OUTSIDE and then quickly rinse it off or it will eat the shell...

Just so you know though, once they go in it's hard to get them to change out of the moon snail shells. They really like them.

Re: White fuzzy stuff on crab
It can start growing on a crab who isn't moving much and near death. I have seen it before. And yes, I am one of those folks incredibly allergic to mold so I don't take chances. I had heard of a friend who also had mold grow in there habitat. All it takes is one spore.

Re: White fuzzy stuff on crab
You should probably clean out the entire tank before putting the new ones in because mold spores can spread. It may have come from the substrate, sometimes it can come from the air. The mold soaks up all the water the crab uses to breathe in its shell and dies of suffocation. Make sure no mold is gr...

Re: Need help from a long time crabber
I agree with wodesorel, turbos are very good. All the crabs I've had in land snail shells seem to never want to change. They like the shell, but the thin wall of those shells are not, in my opinion, good for crabs. If they fall they tend to crack. If you can find a moon snail shell they might change...

His tank was up against my other crab Big Sophie. I only had two at the time and yes they did better apart because Oliver was super food competitive. He also had a tendency to tear apart the habitat and it seemed to disturb Sophia a lot so I separated them. They still liked each others presence and ...
