Re: Guide to making a 10g Crabitat/ISO
One thing to know is that, at least at the my local thrift store, they usually have at least one 10 gal., sometimes several, and occasionally a larger one. Just saying, check there for tanks they are much cheaper. I got a 10 gal plus a wooden stand for 15 dollars!

A rug is a ruggy, or C. Rugosus. It is a species of terrestrial hermit crab.

Re: Can you HEAR your crab come out of its shell?
It's probably just its exoskeleton rubbing against the inside of the shell. I don't hear mine, but as you said, it may be the shell.

Re: Finally, an E shell change after 14 months!
Congrats on the shell change! They are really picky! One of my Es changed twice, and i think it is satisfied with its current shell. The other one is refusing to change out of its way too small shell! Hope it changes soon, and same with Blaise!

Re: Chirping
I heard two of my crabs chirping when i was bringing them home from the pet store, so I think they were just mad or scared. Es are known to chirp when they are just the slightest bit irritated, while I never even heard of a PP chirping. It all depends, really, but I do know that they chirp more than...

Re: Update on PP
The hairs sort of get ground down or fall off (i'm not sure which or both) over time after a molt, so it's not that bad. The color will come back if you feed it lots of color enhancing foods. Actually, just giving it a healthy diet should bring color back to it. It was probably malnourished in capti...

Re: Isolate a molter?
If the crab is not under yet as you said, than it all depends on what you feel is best. If the sand is deep enough for a good molt, and there is room form multiple crabs to go under again, than I would leave the crabs in the main tank. If you think that the conditions are poor for molting, or for so...

Re: How to de-paint a shell
Thank yuo soooo much for posting this
I got two new Es, both in matching painted shells. The larger ones shell is a good size for the other, but I wouldnt want to leave it in because of the paint. Now, I can reuse them!

Re: Molter doesn't look 'normal' trying not to freak out
i don't know about appearence, but i think that you should cover up the side of the glass that yuo can see that crab at. I heard that they release a chemical when they molt that needs darkness to work. Also, it would stress the crab out more to have people watching it at a time when it is so vulnera...

I have seen on several occasions that peppermint is bad for crabs, but most other types of mint are fine. We have some sort of mint growing in our backyard, but I don't know what kind it is. Anyone know how to tell the difference?
