Re: Hiding food in the barnacle cluster?
dandelions are a big thing to take up into the moss pit. i'll have them in the food dish and next thing i know my tiniest crab is sitting there with a whole dandelion stem and flower munching away in the moss. (he goes nuts for them and puts them away like crazy) with oranges i always see little bit...

Re: PP marking his shell with his body fluid??
Maybe he's modifying it? It sounds weird but my modified shells have a groove right where the eyestalks go.

Re: The naughty tank
he may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of options and wants them all for himself. he may not have been done trying out those shells and felt the need to defend them

Re: Finally!!!!
haha, yeah no, my bad. also, is it wrong of me to also prefer E's because i think they're cuter? i think it's the eyes, they're bigger and they make the little guys seem more expressive. (or maybe that's all the conditioning from seeing anthropomorphised disney animals everywhere when i was growing ...

Re: Finally!!!!
^ nonono, i worded that weird.
i know full well the reputation as tank trashers E's have, but i've always heard that during the daytime PP's are more active than E's are.

Re: Finally!!!!
I wouldn't trade my E's for any other species.
Everything I read says they're a lot less active than PP's but i guess we're all anecdotal evidence since even when we had our little guys in their tiny KK they were a super active bunch (and not just at night)

^ when it comes to smalls and teenies, the most molting stories i've heard are that they'll go down for a long time to molt possibly more than once ad come up very noticeably larger.

Re: ummmm.....my crab tried to eat me?
I've never had this happen with my crabs, but other animals yes. Our hamster and mouse (especially the mouse) would constantly lick and nibble at my fingers.
I'm a bit glad my crabs don't as they're big enough to hurt

Re: Do my crabs know who I am?
I'd say yes, to an extent. Any movement outside the tank still scares my guys, and if I reach in to tidy or pick one up they go in their shells (Frodo and Pip not so much anymore, but Sam seals himself in) However once Frodo and Pippin poke me with their feelers they extend fairly far out of their s...

reintroduction to the main tank?
So I had to put a molter in ISO, he's been in there for about two weeks. He had shed all of his exo by that point, but he still needed to eat the last few bits of it and dig down and harden his exo. Now he's crawling all around the ISO, eating plenty of food and minerals, but I'm still a little afra...

Re: Modified Shells?
sadly, when merry switched he did so on valentine's day (during the day though. it was funny, my boyfriend and i were watching a movie so i turned off the lights and shut the blinds so i guess he figured it was dark enough to do his thing. when we turned the lights on he'd made the change. when he s...

Re: Is my crab molting?
Ohh, three rough.
But since your tank conditions are fine then I wouldn't worry too much about him when he's under.
And s for the protein, for my crabs chicken bone marrow was a hit. i rinsed of a leg bone and smashed it under a paper towel and laid it out so they could get at the good bits.
