Re: walking funky?
Sadly, she didn't make it through the night. I found her dead in the salt water shell in iso. Looking back at it, I probably should have used shallower shell since she was having issues walking. I think I may have accidentally drown her. :( I don't seem to have much luck with rescue hermits. Though ...

walking funky?
Ok, on Friday I rescued two tiny (no bigger than your pinky nail) purple pinchers from my local mom and pop place because their shield legs had been baddly clipped. One of them is so bad I thought she dropped the leg instead, but its only clipped up past the first knuckle. Well today my girlfriend n...

Re: Crab "taste test" you? (not for the weak stomach)
Amun-ra use to do this all the time, though I thought it was cause I had just gotten out of work, where I deal with sea food. My PP Horus does this alot too, though usually with my hoodie or my pants, not my hands. I agree with the fight, flight or eat response, I swear if they don't know what it is...

Re: Dominant Crabbies
Horus isn't really rude, just obviously dominant. He only gets rough when the others decide to pick a fight. haha

Dominant Crabbies
So, after observing my hermits for a while I've noticed that Horus seems to be the dominant one in my tank. Any time some of my hermits have a little fight he's the one who comes and settles it. Same with any time I added a new crab, he was the one who asserts his dominance. Now I'm sure most of you...

Re: Is two enough?
You know, I've never noticed my guys actually hang out in groups Invert. They're scattered throughout the tank. Except sometimes Anubis and Horus, when Anubis isn't skulking in the hut, and Horus actually feels like going into the hut. XD

Re: Maybe a re-grown limb?
I don't think its from a regrown leg, both Anubis and Horus have that, I think its something from the lack of good food. Horus still has his deep red leg, but Anubis lost that colour when he turned the redish brown he is now after his molt.

Re: Sits tilted back
hehe wait until he wakes you up in the middle of the night cause he nose dives from the top. Mine use to do that all the time to me. Gave me a hard attack the first time it happened. I'm sure your guy's fine, like mommy said, he's probably just getting comfy.

Re: Sits tilted back
Does it kinda look like he's trying to sit on his legs? Mine every once and a while will just sit so it looks like they're trying to do a hand stand or something. Not for very long mind you, but they do that. And yeah its normal for them to hang from the lid, mine use to do nose dives off the top in...

Re: Chirping
Mine chirp for the fun of it as well. Or when the cats are into their cage. Becca's right, some times its cute, other times its really annoying. I think the bigger they are the more annoying the sound.

Re: Hermits making pools
I'll give it a try without leaving them in the water, oh and they didn't spill any water last night and the tank is now back to sandcastle consistency, I guess pulling the dishes up higher worked. Thanks everyone!

Re: Hermits making pools
I sterilize the sponges every day in the microwave, two minutes each. I do want to replace it with moss when I get some though.

Re: Hermits making pools
Yeah the sand's normally sandcastle consistency. After airing out the tank today a few times and using a few paper towels to drain out most of the water its close to sandcastle again. Hopefully tomorrow it should be back to normal. It could be the sponges, They love playing with them, which is the w...

Re: Hermits making pools
I've done that every morning the last week just in case. Part of why I'm thankful my one molter decided to block off the coconut hut to molt instead of completely bury himself. I've only seen them use the sand to drain it once or twice now, since I've had them. I'm honestly starting to think that th...
