Re: question about colonies
I let them eat and sit in iso for a little bit to check for any health issues before letting them in the main tank. Though I haven't had to get new crabbies for a long time.
I've only ever had problems once, and that was when everyone was figuring out the tank pecking order.

Re: Eye Colour?
Ok, I wasn't sure if he was blind or something when I first noticed it. Though looking at it now, it'd be kinda weird for him to be blind and still react to shadows. >.< Of course, if he was blind, that would just add to the serious bad luck this crab has. >.> I'd end up setting him up with a ten ga...

Eye Colour?
So I found Nut the apocalyptic crab in my shell pit (I think he's enjoying his ability to climb again) and decided to get to know him a little since he's never actually gotten to run around on my hands since I got him three four months ago. I noticed his eyes are red, and was curious if red eyes mea...

Re: Are my hermit crabs mating?
That would be me. And it was a shock. But they were given natural temperatures and high humidity, and about 12 inches of peat moss and sand substrate to molt in. It was natural, it was just barren. Crabs will travel in packs, and they will often climb all over each other and try to chase each other...

Re: Are my hermit crabs mating?
I highly doubt it. Your tank isn't natural enough a setting for them to mate. They're just hanging out.

Re: Do Purple Pinchers chirp?
Yeah all crabs chirp, though E's are the more vocal ones. My big little guy Horus chitters at me every time I pick him up. Almost like he's telling me off for disturbing him.

Re: When are your crabs active?
Out of curiosity, has anyone else noticed that after adding Ecuadorians to a tank of Purple Pinchers, the purples are more active during the day? Like the E's wake them up and convince them to play or something? Ever since I introduced Nut and Shu, they've all been awake at all hours of the day. Eve...

Re: screen name meanings? post here!
I absolutely hate even numbers, and can't have anything in evens. OCD is a pain! I'm OCD too, except with Even numbers, and multiples of five. You can imagine how much it drove me nuts when I only had three hermit crabs. haha It even stretches to video games, having an odd number of arrows in RPG g...

Re: screen name meanings? post here!
Lasuna is from one of my longest lived Dungeons and Dragons characters I used years ago who was a Dark Elf cleric named Lazuna. A few years ago when I started playing online role playing games I started naming elf characters Lasuna since Lazuna usually was taken or didn't fit a "normal" elf like it ...

Re: crabs destroying the habitat?
VERY normal. I've three Ecuadorian crabs in my tank who turn my crabitat into a mine field. Thats a good sign that they're enjoying themselves. To prevent them from flipping the bowls over, I'd suggest sinking them deeper into the sand, or finding bigger/heavier bowls. As for the rest of what they d...

Re: The case of the missing Es
haha at least they're aware of other E's being in the tank, they may be lonely when their friends are buried, but its not so bad that they get totally depressed. Or at least that was how it was with Geb and Amun-ra

Re: Anyone have this happen to them?
Anubis has a thing about grabbing shredded cabbage and scuttling away to their tree with it. Its cute to watch him do it, he'll walk sideways towards the cabbage and sit there for a few moments before slowly reaching a claw into the dish and grabbing some. I've also seen Geb do the same thing with f...

Re: When are your crabs active?
If my cats wake me up around five I can usually see them at their most active. Though I usually see Anubis and Set wandering around the tank at like.... eleven, twelve at night after the lights are out.

I'd get a second one, E's prefer having species buddies. My own Geb is getting listless because his buddy died a few weeks ago.

Yeah... I suppose I should go post a memorial for her, I'm just glad the other rescue is recovering quite well. I put her in the main tank with the other four, last I saw her she was gorging herself on the cabbage in there.
