Re: Crabs not very active

Well, my new guy ended up dieing  I got him/her at a reptile show (Sept 2nd), where they were being kept in shallow water with many others. No telling the conditions they where in before the show. I guess it was stress.

I know that spider plants & air plants are safe, as long as they are not treated with pesticides. There is more but I cant recall at the moment.

Re: Crabs not very active

So it looks like much to worry about, unless I smell fish. I check them everyday, to make sure they are ok. Not by handling, but looking. The food is being eaten & holes are being dug at night. So hopefully they all are doing that & just not the one. My substrate is 4-6" deep. I have it sloped up in...

Crabs not very active

I got my first 2 crabs on July 27th, another the following week & the last crab a week ago. The most active one is the largest crab I have, which was purchased the 1st weekend of Aug.. I beleive he is considered a medium. I see him up about during the day & night. The first 2 I got lay in the same s...

Re: OMG!

Well, somehow my biggest crab escaped a few days ago. I found it underneath the tank stand, huddled in the corner. Was no way it could have gotten through the smaller holes. I think it pushed up on the plexi-glass & got out. So now I make sure to weigh the plexi down.

Re: OMG!

I never thought they could get through the holes with shell, but they did. We drilled another lid with smaller holes & put the holes closer to center. Hopefully this will keep them in. The crab that got out is still doing good.

Re: New Crab Behavior

Welcome!... The behavior that your crabs are showing is normal. The crab that has buried itself may be beginning to molt. Hermits are nocturnal so they like coming out at night more than the day. When they change their shells they are trying to find the perfect fit. Some do this quiet often. I have ...

Re: Pictures of my crabitats and my land hermit crabs

Awesome tanks! Really like the connecting tunnel. The skeleton is a nice touch. Your tanks are so clean & organized.

Re: Crabs under moss

I have the zoomed frog moss. So I think that is real moss. When you say "fake" you mean like the craft store moss?

Re: OMG!

While on this forum my dog was in the back room barking. Got up to see what she was barking at. Behold it was my other hermit, he did get out. He is ok, thanks goodness. Hopefully he will continue to do good.

Re: OMG!

For right now I put a small extra piece of plex-glass over the back holes, until I can get another lid drilled.

I can only find 1 crab. Hopefully the other one is under the sand. From the side glass I see a small hole down in the sand. Looks like an ant hole.
