Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
I'm personally very impressed with the customer service offered to Lauren with her pink indos. I've emailed the customer service account a few times now and have received emails back within the day. I'm ordering some ruggies after Christmas.

Re: Contagious Shyness
Maybe she's getting ready to molt? I notice personality changes when crabbies are preparing for a molt.

Re: And...now it smells
Day 2 sardines will make you think that a crab has died. Day 3 (when my crabs really go nuts for it) is the day we don't watch TV in the living room. :hlol: Ahha that's hilarious! :hlol: I was fostering a kitten once who was barely skin and bones and would not eat ANYTHING. I finally gave her some ...

Re: Idea for improving naked crab advice
Thanks Sophie! Can you imagine trying to draw hemolymph from a coconut crab? I feel like they wouldn't entirely be on board with that. :P It's interesting how the crabs supplied with salt water seemed to be more "regular" in the excretory department. That paper has some great insights that can be us...

Re: Idea for improving naked crab advice
I get what you mean :) I was just a tad worried because my crabs fall in the freshwater all the time when they drink it, so of course their shell water gets flushed out and replaced with fresh. I hope that won't have any ill effects over time :P I'm sure it won't.. it's just water :P Plus the salt ...

Re: Idea for improving naked crab advice
Wow guys! Thanks for the support (and for reading... I know it was long!) I believe one of the ideas behind providing both fresh and saltwater is that it will enable the crab to regulate osmosis on its own. That's the hypothesis I've heard anyway, I don't know if it's something they actually do. I w...

Idea for improving naked crab advice
I've noticed a lot of advice for naked hermit crabs recommending a quick dip in water (to remove substrate from the abdomen) and sometimes keeping them in/near a bath (to help their bodies retain water). I think this is great advice but it raises a point of concern for me. The idea behind bathing a ...

Re: Guide: Shells to Avoid
How fitting...I once spent over $20 on a few land snails shells only to have my biggest crabs, Godzilla, eat most of them.
Thank you for this guide. There's nothing better than a happy hermit crab AND a happy wallet!
