Re: Store bought hermies
post purchase syndrome could be a factor. hermit crabs are plucked off of beaches, sent to a ware house( some are then taken from there shells and forced into painted ones) then they're boxed up and sent to other distributors . then sent to et store before they ever get bought. hermit crabs during t...

Re: Crickets got into my tank?
I know with lizards extra crickets in the tank isn't good because they will bite the lizards if they don't have a food source. Crickets can breed quickly so I would clear the tank asap. Hermit crab tanks are perfect for crickets to breed and eggs to hatch, especially iif you have coco fiber or moss....

Re: Can someone please provide some information on my little
That's definitely a purple pincer. In a ten gallon I wouldn't get more then 2 more crabs. Ten gallon tanks properly set up cannot house many crabs. Could u posts picture of your tank?

Re: Swims got...eaten? (GRAPHIC PICS)
I'm so sorry for your loss! Its never easy loosing a pet! In my own experience crabs tend to eat what's readily available. Scavengers by nature another crab is a great way to get nutrition. I have had crabs attack and kill another, but have also had a dead crab that the others started munching. If y...

Re: Tiny crab help :(
Some crabs really prefer being under the sub then being up and about. I have a couple who just go down not to molt, and I doubt to destress since I've had most of them for years. Sometimes they go down a couple weeks just because. And some crabs go down and destress for weeks, and then molt after th...

Re: Molting in the Moss Pit
I have had several new adoptees molt in the moss pit. The only issue I had was that my shower caddies had grooved bottoms which affected the crabs exoskeletons. It caused grooves from the caddie to imprint on the crabs as it was hardening. It was not an issue for the crabs s health but did look weir...

Re: Modification preference
Lol yeah I remember another crabber had an expensive shell that they had the crabs tear apart before anyone wore it. I can't remember who though. Sent from my VS880PP using Tapatalk If I'm not the person your thinking of then I'm another victim of it. I had bought a very nice large tapestry turbo a...

I wouldn't think anything is wrong with your pp. Just has pretty orange eye stalks. That may change with molts. I'd love to see a pic if possible

Re: orange eyestalks?
Hermit crabs come in so many colors I doubt that there is any issues with the crab. Purple pincers can range from blue and purple, to yellow, orange and red. Some are even white or nearly black looking. Ecuadorian crabs range widely in color as do most other species. Diet and nutrition affect exoske...

Re: EE "polishing" shells?
Crabs definitely modify there own shells, mostly internally though. I have never experienced any crab coming up from a molt that has had its shell pearlized externally. My tanks have sand an Ee and have been that way for years. I haven't ever experienced anything like that.
