I know with lizards extra crickets in the tank isn't good because they will bite the lizards if they don't have a food source. Crickets can breed quickly so I would clear the tank asap. Hermit crab tanks are perfect for crickets to breed and eggs to hatch, especially iif you have coco fiber or moss....

That's definitely a purple pincer. In a ten gallon I wouldn't get more then 2 more crabs. Ten gallon tanks properly set up cannot house many crabs. Could u posts picture of your tank?

Crabs definitely modify there own shells, mostly internally though. I have never experienced any crab coming up from a molt that has had its shell pearlized externally. My tanks have sand an Ee and have been that way for years. I haven't ever experienced anything like that.
