Re: E Molters Dead?
After doing some research I'm going to continue with my ceramic heater. I worried about having it on while I'm out of town because I'm not sure how close of an eye my mom will be able to keep on it, but I think I solved that problem by buying a thermostat that will regulate the temperature.

Re: E Molters Dead?
Thanks for the replies guys! Maybe it's the heat? The temps are around 78 degrees in the summer, so it was usually around 80 inside the tank, and because it hasn't been cold here yet it's stayed at 75 ambient in the tank. I have a hanging ceramic heater that I've used for this tank in the past but i...

E Molters Dead?
Hey guys! I haven't been on in awhile but this holiday break I had time to turn the substrate in my tank a bit. I suspected that I had some E deaths because I've only seen one for the past few months. Anyways I did find empty shells/some with crab remnants buried in the sand. Basically I'm just tryi...

That looks really amazing!! Good job with the set up on such an interestingly shaped tank. I'm guessing it's custom made?

i'm always so shocked about these stories because I've had E's for awhile now and they haven't ever done anything out of the ordinary. Hope nothing changes

Re: Help: Tiny bugs and substrate preferences. Need advice.
I'm not really sure about using dirt. As long as it's clean/no pesticides or fertilizers I guess it's okay? But definitely wood chips aren't great. I would do a sand mix. It's really cheap, around $4 for 50 pounds. I've had tanks of entirely sand, others that were only eco earth, and also mixes of v...

The ingredients are very simple, you could always just feed them those items yourself

Re: 1,020gl Crabitat-Help! Pg 8
I'm so excited to see how it turns out!
My suggestion would be to add pathways around the perimeter as well, that might be handy. Would you be comfortable walking on the sand they might be digging under? I imagine you may need to at some point?

Re: Loveable Exotics (coming soon)
Also, I think if they need to molt they will try to in shallow substrate. I have a hospital tank (mites) right now with a pretty thin layer of eco earth, maybe 2 inches? And one of the smallest crabs, a pp, managed to find a spot to molt while I've been away at school. She was fine luckily but I'm n...

Re: Loveable Exotics (coming soon)
I agree with CallaLily and based on the LHC thread people don't mind waiting as long as you update information. I had crabs shipped to me as a re-home and none of them died, all are doing well (it was two violas, a pp, and 3 E's). I really think that's because they had already been established and m...

They're beautiful! Sorry I don't know much about crested geckos, are they kept together normally or separate?

Re: LiveHermitCrabs.com
Personally, it would take a business that could guarantee a safe harvest and humane transport and housing before I would ever put money towards buying another hermit crab. I just can't see supporting an industry that is all about the money and not about the welfare of the hermits. I keep my husband...
