Re: Kids picked up shells on vacation in outer banks didn’t know crabs where in them tilll we got home.
Without a photo, no one can really help.. we have to identify the species. That being said, call your local fish store and ask for some saltwater. It must be made for saltwater fish. Otherwise they are as good as dead. A proper species ID will give us an idea of how much time you have before they di...

Re: Saltwater smelling like eggs
No, there isn't any egg in there. It also just always smells that way. The saltwater conditioner I have does contain calcium though, I just remembered. Could that cause the egg smell? We are concerned by the term “saltwater conditioner.” Can you tell us which product specifically? We’d like to make...

All they need is saltwater made from dechlorinated freshwater and ocean/saltwater aquarium salt. They will survive!

Definitely Clibanarius vittatus. Most LFS sell premixed saltwater for saltwater aquariums. I’d start there.

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
No LR in the SW pool? Or are you just using that filter? Cause being an expert in reefs youd know that filters are a no no in SW tanks as they harbor nitrates. Id just toss a small piece of porous LR in there to host anaerobic bacteria to consume nitrates There's about 7lbs of liverock in there. I'...

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
Holy goodness! I clap. Although, I do agree on the overcrowding count. I've got a 55gal as well, and I only dare to have 18. XD I am a freak though. I was given this tank for my birthday- It was filled with 20-25 crabs (It was an adoption). Many were large. I was naïve, and I lost a good... 10. The...

Re: Rearranged Crabitat
Plastic coating? It looks like paint to me, and also, nothing that rust wouldn't demolish anyway. Crabs will pick at it and expose the metal eventually, right?

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
Yes of course. Most of that is driftwood though. They spend most of their time picking at it. That's a weekly buildup!

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
I just wanted to post an update. The tank is doing well, in its own ecosystem. I've since rehomed the majority of the crannies (took a while because I only trust certain people). I'm left with about 11, three being my previous strawberries.

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
Your tank looks lovely. I viewed some of your photos, especially loved the one taken of your strawberry. The crabs must love the climbing surfaces. And now I'm going to rattle off a bunch of questions at you like a two-year-old. Do many of your crabs submerge in the pools? Do you find the pools pro...

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
Aren't you worried that the mud skippers might be dangerous for your crabs or other tank inhabitants? They are naturally opportunistic predators and they do eat crustaceans as one of their natural food items. I'm sure that a very large crab would be fine but a smaller crab or some of your fish migh...

Re: I Present my 55 -> 90G setup!
I just feel it's very difficult to provide every species with it's exact needs and space. Nice! I bet the crabs love having such large pools. :) Oh. I can understand that. The life I've chosen have relatively basic needs. I'm very experienced at keeping them separately. Together is no issue. As far...
