Re: Up and running?
HELLO. I AM LATE TO THIS PARTY. I got an automatic email and was gravely concerned my account had been deleted. ;) Get it... haha. Anyways, hello! Sorry for my absence from HCA world. I've been transitioning into Graduate School with has been a huge success! I have many positive and mysterious hermi...

Back From the Dead & The Near Death Smell
I wasn't sure where to post this, so feel free to move it somewhere else if more appropriate. A month ago I met someone who had driven quite a ways to drop off two hermit crabs that were no longer able to be cared for. I was told that they continually got mites, etc, and needed to be re-homed. When ...

Re: Themed Tank Ideas?!
As the archaeologist here, I would suggest that you pick out an ancient culture and put ceramic sculptures in your tank! Sometimes I see fishtanks try to recreate things like this, but I think doing one particular destination by hand may look even nicer. And as far as the beach theme goes… I always ...

Re: ! Molted soft naked unburied hermit purple pincher
It may not seem like a lot, but 2 inches of moistened sand is heavy/a lot for a hermit crab. How big is this crab? Can you update us with the latest? Have you noticed a small top pile of sand near where you buried him? (Showing that he may have been hollowing out a cave for himself). Can you fill ou...

Re: Shrinking/Skinny Limbs on Older Crab
Must be a really nice turbo! I just checked Corentine again and she looks better. Maybe I am imagining it all. I don't know! I feel a little nuts with how closely I track them. Most of my crabs are all still above ground right now too. I checked the terrain out, but it all feels nice and the temps/h...

Shrinking/Skinny Limbs on Older Crab
Good afternoon friends! Wanted to ask a question regarding one of my crabs, Corentine. I got her in January of this year, and she molted in September. Since she's come up, I've noticed that her limbs are far skinnier than when she went down. I know that crabs will "change shape" to some degree betwe...

Re: Found Crab out of shell and freshly molted
I'll check back here after the form as been filled out/posted. But just a word of encouragement: I have had a few crabs that for various reasons have left their shells during a molt and dug under in their ISO tanks - all of them survived. If your crab appears more lively and not totally "out of it" ...

Re: Rescued crabbies from outside, never owned one before!
Thank you for rescuing them!!! And right before the holiday! THANK YOU! I would reiterate what hermitcrabdc said about the food. If I were you, I would skip store bought food altogether until you better know what you are buying and looking for in the brands and ingredients list. Do you have an egg o...

Re: Setting up my first crabitat
The set up looks great! :) Always wonderful to read about people who do the research first. :) Is the heating and humidity staying pretty stable now? My only input would be to perhaps move the tank further away from the window if it still is. Unless you have great insulation, which I know is possibl...
