Re: 90 Gallon Update!
It's been awhile since I've been on the forum, but I'll post some pictures of the tank as I just cleaned it, not much has changed, but I did adopt 4 new medium-to-small PPs, so the tank is at full capacity. Also, I'm hoping to soon order a couple of good cholla pieces to fill in the right side. Here...

Yeah, I would agree, I've always loved your tanks too. And the crabs all look super healthy!

Update: She buried down for about and hour to destress. Then she took a dip in the freshwater pool, and climbed a bunch. I also saw her eating too. She's been named Perseverance, Percy for short.

If you don't believe in miracles, read this
Amazing. Unbelievable. Miracle. about 3 months ago, I built the 90 gallon tank I have now and transferred all the crabs over except one who was still molting. She had already been down about 1/2 a month. As the weeks passed by, and she failed to surface, I became more and more worried that she hadn'...

Re: NEW TAT!! :D!!!
I only have two different types of animals, but I keep alternating between upgrading one and then the other. It will eventually get to the point where my bedroom is converted into a giant tank divided in half, lol

Re: Pleaseeee give me suggestions with my tank!
I would put ramps in the pools, or at least plastic plants that lead out of the pools. It looks like it would be a little difficult for a crab to get out.

Re: do hermit crabs need natural sunlight?
Hermit crabs do not need natural "sunlight" per-say. They obviously need a natural day/night cycle, meaning that they need more or less 12 hours of light. The light can just be provided by regular light bulbs, though. To really answer your question, crabs do not need the UVB light provided by the su...

Re: Stuck Crab? [she didnt make it]
I'm so sorry for your loss. But don't lose hope, crabbing is a great joy shared by many of us. If the conditions are right, hermit crabs are an amazing thing to watch and care for, and I see new things every day.

Re: "Elderly"crabs?
It really is interesting. I actually had a small crab become large in one molt, so there could be a little variation. When she came up, I could NOT believe it was her, she got so big in one molt. And she was only down about 3 weeks, so I know it couldn't have been a back-to-back molt. I think it wil...

Re: Diy hide, safe materials??
I'm pretty sure river rocks from the plant store are just the same as those from the pet store. The pet store likes you to think that their materials are "clean" and "safe" so they can up the price. If you boil them or bake them, they'll be safe

Re: Straw (perlatus) over 5 years?
I think crabbers all have different luck. I've probably purchased 5 E's in my crabbing experience (I was less experienced at the time), but every single one either died from molting or from PPS. So I've just had bad luck with them. But one of my oldest crabs is a jumbo, bought from a wire cage in a ...
