Re: Upgrade 65gal and stand

I have the same tree ornament, and it is my absolute favorite! It's a hide, a huge climbing toy, and it looks super cool :)

Re: Setting up a corner tank

I have an American Green Tree Frog Vivarium with a false bottom. I have two layer of screening on the false bottom, and that keeps the ABG mix I have in it from falling into the water.

Re: New Tank [wip]

Glass lid is definitely the best option. It looks better, it keeps in humidity, and aqueon makes lids with a vinyl stip in the back so you can drill holes for tubing, wiring, and ventilation. Overall, they last longer and are much better for allowing light permeation IMO. I have that same shower cad...

Re: Crabitat Pictures

Looks like some good progress :). And don't worry, it took me a year to get all my stuff, so it's ok to go a little slow if you want. That way you can research and study other peoples' tanks and get ideas. Good luck on it!

Re: dumbest things people have said about your crabs/other p

My Mom still has not gotten over telling every person she meets that her son has crabs. My friends kind of just accept that I'm a weirdo

Re: Live plants and substrate

The biggest barrier for growing plants in a crab tank, believe it or not, is light. Now, many people think, "Hey, I have plenty of light!". This issue isn't the amount, but rather the specific color temperature, measured in Kelvin, of each light bulb. To grow plants, you need a range of about 5700K ...

Oh yeah, I've seen that hide at Petsmart before. I might just get one, it would go nicely in the back right corner :)

Re: Hermit crabs feel pain

Haha, my sense of smell is the best for memory. I'll smell something, and it will cause me to remember some random thing from years ago that I had believed I had completely forgotten about. I always wondered why that was :)

Re: Help! Heat down to 72

I have used moonglo and infrared lights. Both of them work well, and the moonglo does really create a nice moon light. If you want something that will last, though, I would go with a ceramic heat emitter. They are obviously a little more expensive, but I got a 150w for about $23, and they last MUCH ...
