Glass lid is definitely the best option. It looks better, it keeps in humidity, and aqueon makes lids with a vinyl stip in the back so you can drill holes for tubing, wiring, and ventilation. Looks like some good progress . And don't worry, it took me a year to get all my stuff, so it's ok to go a little slow if you want. That way you can research and study other peoples' tanks and get ideas. Good luck on it!

I have used moonglo and infrared lights. Both of them work well, and the moonglo does really create a nice moon light. If you want something that will last, though, I would go with a ceramic heat emitter. They are obviously a little more expensive, but I got a 150w for about $23, and they last MUCH ...
