Re: Finalizing my Upgrade

I have 12" in my 90 gallon, and I want to say that I used 5 or 6 50lb bags of play sand and about 9 bricks of eco earth. I wanted to have an even quantity of sand and EE, but those 9 bricks ran out faster than I anticipated, and I ended up having more sand than EE in the end.

Re: Which to get

I usually avoid buying from Petco and Petsmart simply because of the awful conditions. In buying the crabs from them, we can in a way be seen to be supporting the cheap and incomplete housing of hermit crabs. That being said, I don't blame anyone from buying from them, I've done it before myself. I ...

Re: 90 gallon update

Ficus pumila is nice if you want to get a background covered quickly, but it just takes over everything else. I much prefer a mixture of moss and some marcgravia species and/or dischidia ruscifolia on a background, as they grow all over the background, but don't start taking over the other plants. I...

Re: 90 gallon update

Here's my 18x18x24 exo terra vivarium housing 2 dendrobates auratus 'costa rica'. It's been set up for about 3 years now, and I recently trimmed out about 90% of the ficus pumila that was taking over the tank, so it has some time to grow in again. Here's it before trimming: https://i.imgur.com/s6nw1...

Due to the whole photobucket debacle, I thought I would link you to the thread with the tank as it stands today:

90 gallon update

What's up everyone! I haven't really been active on the forum for a couple of years, but this summer I did change up my 90 gallon tank a little bit, so I figured I would show pictures. I have about 8 or 9 crabs in there (I honestly don't know exactly), and the tank is still going strong. Despite set...

Re: Adoptions, Molts, and the gang

I have noticed that E's tend to go for smaller shells, though, it might just be a species preference, but still pretty cool. Beautiful crabs of course, I just adopted four myself, two of them have already buried down.

Re: shower caddy level

2. I wouldn't say that ecuadorians are the next easiest to care for, but rather the second most common after PPs, and this where people get confused. They are known for their aggression, in that they love to tunnel and our linked to molting deaths, as well as fighting and pushing on the surface leve...

Re: shower caddy level

Okay, to answer some of your questions: 1. Yes, sand dollers are perfectly fine, add all the beachy decorations you want :) 2. I believe if you check the care sheets, they have information on ecuadorians. What I can personally tell you is that they are aggressive, and need a LOT of substrate depth, ...

Re: Is it ok if my hermit crab drank salt water?!

He'll be fine, hermit crabs can stay submerged in saltwater for hours, I highly doubt that they don't drink at least a little bit of it. Their bodies are likely adapted so that ion concentrations can be maintained in salty environments through osmoregulation.

Re: Been Lurking for a few months, new member My 29g set up

This is a beautifully set up tank, job well done. Next time you head to the store, you could pick up another corner shower caddy and use it as a soil or moss pit, just put the plastic plant around it, kind of screen it in. Anyways, just an idea, but it's very impressive :D

Re: shower caddy level

Only good pic I have is FTS, but here's how mine are set up: http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab310/jarteta97/20160103_174252_zpsrj8sg29t.jpg I like corner ones as you can see, but I also like to support them, because the suction cups aren't the best. I tried PVC covered in silicone and coco fiber...

Re: 90 Gallon Update!

The bluish light is from the blue acitinic LEDs that are part of the hood. I purchased the tank and lighting on craigslist, so all I know is that it is Odyssea. Frogs do make very cool pets, but they tank a TON of research and preparation. That being said, through frogging and vivarium making I know...

Re: 90 Gallon Update!

Oh, believe me, you will most certainly be able too. Check out dendroboard.com, a sight for the poison dart frog hobby, and you will see some of the most breathtaking tanks ever. Also, if I showed you some of my old or original tanks both for hermit crabs and frogs, you would see the learning curve ...
