Re: IM GETTING TIRED OF THIS!!

Prolonged isolation from other crabs truly is the most likely cause. This can often be seen in other social animals as well. Case in point, I had a pet dove growing up who was hand-raised from a baby and was not in contact with other doves. He loved people, but could not stand other doves. Every tim...

Re: Moss cave party!

What materials did you use ?? - It looks like Fish Net, a Clay Pot & Moss but what kind of Moss ?? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk Looks like Spanish moss. It grows in trees and is actually not a moss- it's in the air plant (Tillandsia) family. Saw it everywhere when I visited Florida some y...

I'd say you've got either an incredibly purple PP or an Indo.

Recommended Ultratherm Heat Pad Size?

I finally got a 40gal breeder for my crabs! But the standard heating pad I've been using for their plastic bin isn't enough anymore. I've read great opinions on the Ultratherm heat pads, but I'm just not sure what size would be best, so I'm hoping that someone here who has experience with t...

Re: Tiny livestock list?

From your description, they sound like springtails. I believe they're harmless- they tend to like humid, moist environments, and it's not uncommon to find them in water dishes and around food and poo. I find them in my snail bin frequently, but they never seem to cause any problems.

Re: DIY Tank Build?

I just checked the website and don't see anything about it. It it in-store only, or maybe only at certain stores at any given time?

Re: how long before i should look for it?

Sometimes they'll stay down a long time just for giggles, or to de-stress if they're fairly new. He could be molting, though, and if he is, how long he's down will depend on his size. How large is he? The bigger they are, the longer it takes. Other people might be able to tell you about how long you...

Re: DIY Tank Build?

I'm not in a hurry, per se, I'm just impatient. But since I'd likely have to wait even longer until my parents come visit to help me get the glass and other materials home, I guess I'll keep an eye on Petco's site. Hopefully, they'll have the sale going again soon. I already have my guys in a clear ...

Re: DIY Tank Build?

Thanks, guys! I looked at PetSmart's website, and they don't have the $1/gallon sale going on right now apparently, so I guess I'll just have to wait if I want to buy a tank. Last I looked, though, they didn't even have 55gal tanks, aside from the overpriced acrylic nonsense they're carrying now. Th...

DIY Tank Build?

About 7 years ago, tanks were cheap. I mean you could find a brand-new 55gal for between $40 and $60. I've been considering buying one for some time now and looked at both PetSmart's and Petco's websites, and the prices are astronomical! Most seem to go for well over $130! That would be fine if I we...

Re: Scrabbling at the tank?

I, too, have a crab that has been pale for the three and a half years I've had him. Despite giving him color-rich foods, he's barely darkened up at all. But he's as happy and healthy as a crab can be, and such a bugger!

Re: Looking for hermit crabs- Website?

Thanks, guys! I had thought Hermit Crab Patch rang a bell, but when I looked, I didn't see any for sale. Unless I can find local adoptions (unlikely in my tiny neck of the woods, and with no vehicle), I guess I'll have to get them the old-fashioned way.

Looking for hermit crabs- Website?

I recall reading on here at one point that there was a reputable website that sold hermit crabs online. I can't recall the name, and I was wondering if anyone knew off-hand what I'm talking about?

Re: "Prepared" Shredded Squid

I live in an area with many Asian stores that carry things like this, as well as dried fish. However, I've been too nervous about giving it to the crabs simply because food additive standards are different in China and other Asian countries where these things are produced than they are here. There i...
