Re: Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build h
Need to order back strip immediately!!!! I had just gotten home from work to find my daughter extremely upset - she was walking down the hall and accidentally kicked an escaped hermit crab down the steps!! She grabbed him and ran him to my husband who put him back in the tank. He appears to be ok, h...

Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build here!
... A few things I would like to mention - I personally think your airstones are a little large. I would just use the ball air stones. I think that those long ones will create too many bubbles and overspray in your tank ;) .... I didn't see any airstones or tubing for that matter. Are you talking a...

Re: Molting against the glass.
Crab update: whoever it was surfaced (I still don't know why they were hanging limply out of their shell for two hours, but I guess crabs are just weird?). We apprehended the suspect, but I'm still not certain if it was Herman, or my other, unnamed crab - this guys legs are pretty bright red, and as...

Re: Molting against the glass.
He is very handsome indeed! :D actually, I too have a handsome lil crab in a lil green turbo just like that one annnnnd his name is Herman too! we call him Hermie for short. He is my "sub terraranian crab" because he spends all his time underground. i see him sneak out for a bit to eat every ...

Re: Molting against the glass.
My first crabbie molted in a little cave he made right up against the glass. He left me a nice lil window to watch him in. It was very weird and very cool! He got very still and quit moving. Then a few days later I saw his exo hanging out of his shell and It kinda looked like he had died but then I...

Molting against the glass.
So I upgraded to a larger tank, and I have one molter down...I had 3 down, two came up within the last week or two. I have two nearly identical crabs in the same green turbo shell. One came up last week, all hairy and fresh, the other green shell guy was still down. I had to move the tank to uprade,...

Thanks, she's cute but she's a holy terror - the crabs will tell you. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170831/e8e15dc5431d1ce7d0de42259d73c995.jpg It's mostly done! I need to do some for minor fiddling, and I think I'd like to get a half log, but the hard part is over Sent from my iPhone using Tap...

Re: Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build h
Halfway there! We moved the 20 without incident, Bruce is so far still above ground. I need to attach the UTH, decorate and figure out how to seal up the back of the glass tops-the plastic strip is gone. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170831/b3f13482b389286c515b4b68d7c62dc8.jpg Sent from my iPho...

Re: Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build h
He's also doing suspicious shell changing. He's always been one to pick a shell and stick with it for a year, and he keeps swapping back and forth with a particular turbo shell. I'm onto him. He just needs to hold off until my husband gets home and can help me lift the tank. The last molter still th...

Re: Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build h
I think I've seen a couple crabbers on here using the water dish you show in the picture. If I were to use it, I'd probably put freshwater in it too, since if the saltwater spills it can over time increase the salt concentration in the substrate. A few saltwater leaks here and there is probably fin...

Re: Tap Water in Substrate!
I did this in my first crab tank, and when I realized I worried myself sick imagining chlorine hurting my molter....and then one day he popped up good as new, and I realized it was fine.
I think your crabs will be fine!

Re: Spray foam background? Edit: documenting my tank build h
It's been about two weeks. I believe all odors are gone from the background, and I'm preparing to set up the tank, finally. I actually had 3 molters down (2 are nearly identical in identical green turbo shells so it's hard to be sure), two have come up so now I only have one molter down. There's onl...

I've had a blue one in my tank for about a year, with no problems
