Re: S.O.S!!
aggression is a sign some need isnt being meet. so once you figure that out hopefully they will be ok. for your injured crab i would just offer some protein rich food with calcium and honey. also making sure that he is close to a dish of fresh and salt water if he isnt moving. i think another impor...
S.O.S!!
As I came home today, my smallest crab Junior was not only out of his shell, he was completely turned over and missing a leg with his shell about 4-5 inches from him. A couple weeks ago, I saw he was missing his big claw and a leg. He seemed perfectly fine and went under and molted and just came up ...

Re: Swapping shells...finally!
Yay! No more painted shells  ! It's such a triumph for us when they finally choose a natural shell. Interesting that Junior went from a whale-eye shell to a babylonia rather than a turbo -- I guess the D-shape opening was more familiar to him. My two new little guys switched from painted ba...

Re: Swapping shells...finally!
Very nice! No more icky painted shells :) . My crabs were twins, till one of them switched shells. Nice that you got the paint off so the shells are still usable. Yeah. It wasn't easy getting the paint off of the others two shells. But juniors was the easiest one. Barely took 10 minutes :) Mommy to...

Swapping shells...finally!
So my tiniest of 3 crabs, Junior recently just switched shells. He's the last to change out of the nasty painted shells and so far I've been able to scrape the paint off of all the shells and put them back in the tank. This was Junior before switching shells http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/2...

Yes. Looks like I spoke too soon he came up during the night and I saw him staring right outside the tank before I left for school

Worried about a molted
I posted here about 3 weeks ago that my crab Ernie has gone down to molt. He's barely an inch tall and this is his first molt since I got them in July. Since this is my first time dealing with a molting crab my nerves are just through the roof. I think it'll be 3 weeks or a month Monday since he's g...

Disappearing molter
I posted before I have finally got a good substrate for my crabs. I bought Eco Earth and its about 5 inches deep, 2 inches deeper then I originally wanted, since my largest crab Ernie, is barely an inch in height. Any who, as soon as I put them back in the tank, Ernie started digging. He was always ...

New crabitat
My boyfriend and his mom bought me 3 huge bricks of Eco earth for only 10 dollars at pet smart. Yesterday my mom and I spent a little over an hour throwing out all the gravel I had in for them for temporary purposes, watering the Eco earth brick and mushing it and letting it dry for half an hour bef...

Re: Hermit crabs feel pain
I've found it to be true that if an animal is small they don't get half the intelligence credit they should. Yes, their Exo fuctions like armor, but what do you THINK happens when that armor is punctured? Same reason I think molting is stressful. Not only are they vulnerable, that new skin ( after ...

Re: Ecuadorians!
I was JUST in manhattan for my moms birthday and I had the thought that I might be able to find some E's but I never came across that Petco :( I can't find anything but PPs in Maryland. The 2 E's that I do have came from an adoption. I want at least 1 more to complete that group. Wow :/ it's right ...

Re: Ecuadorians!
How cute!! I love Ecuadorians, I just wish I had better luck with them :( I see so many people who are so shocked and excited to find Ecuadorians, where I live, all I can ever find is Ecuadorians!! I never even thought I could find ecuadorians here. You're lucky! I seen all those little guys and I ...

Ecuadorians!
So I went down to manhattan with my boyfriend and we ended up stopping in Petco by Union Square. I went to look at the hermit crab and low and behold they had ecuadorians! And tons of them. I couldn't believe it. I just wanted to buy them all >.< I love ecuadorians and would like to own many in the ...

Re: Hermit crabs feel pain
Did people really think that just because they're tiny and don't form shells of their own that they can't feel pain [emoji35][emoji35]
