Ah man, it's awful to hear that you went through this, too. I'm very sorry for your loss. *hug*Happyhermiehome wrote:I very recently experienced my first loss too also to aggression. I feel your pain

Re: A humane method for crab euthanasia :(
Thank you for the kind words <3 It does help to think about it like that. You helped me more than you know. I'm dealing with aggression in my tank. The aggressor backs down now, when face to face, but comes from behind when given the opportunity. I let her visit in the big tank every day, and every...

A humane method for crab euthanasia :(
I know this is a sad, awful topic, but I want to share this information with all of you for the benefit of your crabs, should it come to this. Today, one of my oldest and most beloved crabs was horribly attacked by another crab when my back was turned. It was horrible and I didn't get there in time ...

Re: What size Ultratherm?
Ah, yeah it kinda makes me wary thinking about it. Thank you. Hmmm... in that case, here's an idea.. maybe if I try tracing the UTH's shape on the background, add 1/4" or 1/2" extra to each side, and cut that shape out, I can fit it around the heating pad and it won't touch it! Guess I could experim...

Re: What size Ultratherm?
Thank you CallaLily! I'll get the biggest one they have, then. Do you have any experience with putting paper, such as a background, directly next to a UTH? Is it safe?

What size Ultratherm?
Hey guys! So, as some of you may know, I'm upgrading to a 90 gallon bowfront soon; I'll be picking it up this Friday. Before then, I need to figure out a couple of things. Firstly, do any of you have suggestions on what size of Ultratherm heater I would need to warm the entire tank without overheati...

Re: Could my Es live with PPs?
Thank you CallaLily! I will definitely be keeping my Es alone for a while after I move them to their larger tank (I'm getting a 90 gallon this Friday! :D ) just to see if they remain calm and cool with each other. As long as they stay relaxed, I think I'll try adding a few PPs to the mix after a whi...

Re: Space for Ecuadorians?
Thanks aldebaron! Maybe that's why my Es haven't ever been aggressive; I have always put them under UV spectrum lighting, just because I used to keep reptiles and remembered that it was essential for maintenence of calcium and vitamin D levels in the body. Thought that perhaps crabs might benefit in...

Re: Space for Ecuadorians?
Update: I found a beautiful 90-gallon bowfront aquarium for them, and I'm picking it up on Friday! I'm sure they'll be extra happy with that! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, everyone!

Re: Space for Ecuadorians?
Thank you, everyone! I'll make sure to put down 10 inches of substrate space for them. What's nice is that with a 55 gallon tank, that still leaves me roughly 10 inches of vertical space for climbing structures and other decorations. I'm sure they'll love it!
