Re: Should I remove a molter from an insect-infested tank?

Good news everyone!! Charlie (molting crab) is hanging in there!! He's eaten his entire exoskeleton! I picked him up about a centimeter off the ground just to see if he was still kicking (not sure if that was the best thing to do), and he peeked out of his shell with very active antennae. So now, I ...

Re: Should I remove a molter from an insect-infested tank?

:( You're right... I do... I just googled them and found this picture: http://www.amcoranger.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/springtails.jpg Which is exactly what they look like. I didn't recognize them in the thread because they're a bit paler in those pictures. I can't even explain how mu...

Re: Should I remove a molter from an insect-infested tank?

Sorry about reburying him :( I just unearthed him and now I'm looking for something to put him in. Thank you for the bug thread, but I'm still not sure what they are. I think they might be (brown) mites because they're the only creatures on that thread that look as small as the ones in the tank. I'l...

Should I remove a molter from an insect-infested tank?

Unfortunately when I checked my tank today I discovered what I'm assuming are mites crawling in the substrate. They were so small that I can't even think of anything small enough to compare them too, but there were a LOT of them, EVERYWHERE. I panicked and started to remove all the decor, dishes and...

It's hard to get a good picture of him because he's usually in his shell during the day and underground at night. https://38.media.tumblr.com/a5e4c346389d9a30d81430dc049504d7/tumblr_...

Re: What's happening to my crab?

Yep! Although yesterday the "creaking" happened again when I moved him during the day so I could replace the water. Shortly afterwards he came out of his shell and walked around, though, so I guess it really is just him chirping!

Re: What's happening to my crab???

Update: He is fine! I guess what I heard was him chirping. I looked it up on Youtube, and the "crackling" I heard sounded a bit like the beginning of a full-blown chirp. What a weird sound! I really thought something was wrong with him. I guess he was sleeping (?) when I found him on his back and pi...

Re: What's happening to my crab???

Thank you for the responses, everyone. I didn't think about chirping. I feel like that might have been what he was doing, but I've never heard a chirp before. He is half way out of his shell now, but he's just standing idle. Also, I think his antennae aren't moving... That's strange, right? I know h...

What's happening to my crab?

I just woke up and looked into my crabitat and saw my hermit crab on his back with his legs sticking out. I got really scared and though he was dead, but when I slowly picked him up he moved his legs. However whenever he does I hear something that sounds like crackling. I'm really really worried. Wh...

Re: Where'd my crab go?

Okay, great! So, what about my other crab? I've heard that when hermit crabs molt other crabs are drawn to scent and dig them up to eat them :(

Where'd my crab go?

I can't find my hermit crab. Last I saw he dug to the bottom of the tank in the back right corner, but when I checked today he wasn't there... By "check" I mean I peaked into his tunnel, and when I did I didn't see him so I brushed away some of the sand and he's no where to be found. He's been diggi...
