Shell fighting
Just broke up my first shell fight! One of the unnamed crabbies was naked and trying to steal Muriel's shell.I have no idea where the naked one's shell went. I moved Muriel and put 3 appropriate sized shells right next to the naked one, and he went right in one. Should I be worried that they will fi...

Re: Pine - safe or not?
Thanks for clearing that up. I think I'll just skip the pine entirely. No point in running the risk.

Re: Pine - safe or not?
I guess I was a little confused because I thought I saw wodesorel mention in a different thread that pine was okay... and if pine cones are safe, why wouldn't the branches be as well?

Pine - safe or not?
I checked both food lists, safe says pinecones, unsafe says nothing about pine... Would pine branches be safe to put in for climbing? (it's the only tree that grows around here that has fallen branches I can harvest) I was just hoping to add some enrichment on the cheap... since I've already dumped ...

Question about crab sizing
I was just wondering what size you would consider most hermits that are sold in the pet stores to be? I'm confused about the leg sizing since none of my crabs have seemed to be out often enough yet for me to really check. Can you go by the size of their shell to get an overall guess? Each of my crab...

Re: When to get another crab?
Pretty sure your lone crab will be alright for a while by itself. When you think about how some go down to molt, they don't see each other very often anyhow.

Re: Setting up my first crabitat
Tonight only Bob was up and about. I got a good look at his belly, no gonopores so he's definitely male.

Re: What are your crabs up to?
I just got my crabbies 2 days ago. During the day it seems all 4 have dug down to hide. I just spent the last 15 minutes watch 2 of them- Muriel and Bob. Bob has changed shells already from the one he came from the pet store in, and Muriel looks like she's debating a change of clothes as well. She's...

Re: Setting up my first crabitat
Unfortunately, the spot near the window was the only place I could put the tank without major rearranging of the room. The spot is a little cooler than the rest of the room, but I have a space heater set up blowing over there, the heat lamp on a thermostat, and every time I've checked the tank the t...

Re: Setting up my first crabitat
Okay, sounds great. I think they've all gone under now. I can't see any of them anymore, and I don't want to dig in there to look for them. I don't see any tunnels or where they could have gone under at. I figure as long as I don't smell dead fish, I'll just leave everything be. I swapped out the fo...

Re: Setting up my first crabitat
Yesterday I decided since the conditions were right, I would get some crabs. I went to petsmart, and they had a decent set up there- thick substrate, moss, lots of hiding places. I was really impressed with the way they had them, especially after seeing the poor crabs at petco (No water at all, just...
