Re: Crab on the hunt??
Alright! I'm just hoping he doesn't go burrowing around and find Hermie. I guess only time will tell

Crab on the hunt??
One of my crabs, Hermie, buried himself about a month ago and I haven't seen the little dude since. Recently, my other hermit crab, Karkat, dug down in the original spot Hermie dug. I don't know if Hermie is molting since I saw no warning signs and don't want to dig him up to see. I'm worried that, ...

Re: My crabs wont eat!
Oh wow! That's pretty wonderful! I,unfortunately, need to keep myself to a tight food budget and I don't have time to make them a whole little meal, but next year I'm hoping to invest more time for their food care and also get them a new tank since I'm moving to an apartment and will have the space ...

Re: My crabs wont eat!
Thank you very much for the advice! I got rid of the food I was giving them since it had a harmful preservative and am feeding them some fruit mix and ordered a safe commercial brand listed that has both animal and vegetable bits in it. That should be here in a couple days. I once tried giving them ...

My crabs wont eat!
I have a commercial crab food, TetraFauna Hermit Crab meal, and I've never seen them touch it! They seem really disinterested in it! I fed one of my crabs some honey today and he ate that, but their actual food inspires no such interest! Is there something wrong with the food? Should I try a differe...

Re: Dropped all his legs!!
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Half of the tank is 3 inch coconut fiber, the other half is 1 inch sand 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Yes,...

Dropped all his legs!!
My crab dropped all his legs and is in his shell. I'm not sure if he's alive or not, but he isn't moving. This isn't a molt, since it's the full leg. Is he dead or not? If dead, how do I get him out of his shell so I can keep the shell?

Re: Dug up! exo and all!! Help!
Ah, well in that case I'll try to cover my little molting crab with a cloth or something to give him said darkness and privacy since he's catching an awful lot of light from where he is now.

Is this a good sign?
I posted in the emergency thread about a dug-up molter already.
I moved the crab to an ISO tank and I've seen him nibbling his exoskeleton! Is this a good sign that he is likely to pull through?

Re: Dug up! exo and all!! Help!
Thank you. I've placed the little cup inside the main tank for now to keep him in the right humidity. I've been trying to work on substrate depth. The sand side of the tank is very shallow but the side with the coconut fiber is 3 inches deep. I just need to save up a little more money to afford more...

Dug up! exo and all!! Help!
I was rearranging the tank and mixing the substrate up in one section of the tank. I know digging up crabs is dangerous for them and I thought my 3rd crab was in a different section of the tank, but instead I stumbledupon him with the last bit of his exoskeleton hanging off him and the rest of it in...
