Re: New Crab Behavior--Normal?
Thanks again! I absolutely will. I went in a bit ago to water them and add a new climbing toy, and he's mostly buried now, can only see a bit of shell. The pet store only had about an inch of substrate, so he may just be enjoying the ability to bury. I will worry more if I don't see him after anothe...

New Crab Behavior--Normal?
Hello! We finally got a new Crab companion for our resident crab Flame after his buddy died. We named the new guy Captain America because of his patriotic shell. He's been generally social, alert and active. Shortly after I finally introduced them and added Captain to the main tank, they did the usu...

A proper Introduction to my crabbie
First I want to thank everyone who took the time to help me with all my questions in regards to my hermit crab Gabby. She has sadly passed and I am currently looking for a buddy for my remaining crab, Flame. After all the depressing photos of poor Gabby, I thought I should properly introduce Flame. ...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
Thank you, I appreciate it. We're all sad. She was my favorite crab. The most social and always willing to come out of her shell and visit. She had a particular fondness for my husband. He's upset about it too. Later on tonight I'll have to post a good pic of the crabs instead of a sad one!

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
Well, my husband pulled her pieces out of there, and says he found the abdomen and it feels fleshy and heavy so it looks like she's dead and Flame ate her. :( How long can he be alone before he gets lonely? Trying to decideif we should wait andupgrade the tank and get a big one, or go with a baby th...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
The shell is indeed empty. So if she molted she's changed shells or is buried nude. I don'thave the heart to "break a leg" so when my husband gets home I'll ask him to do it for me. Lol . Thanks for giving some hope, however small.

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
10 gallon is all I have now. We were planning another upgrade sometime I'm the next couple of months, but won't help me now. My daughter had been wanting some jumbos soon, which is why we planned on getting a new tank soon. I will pick it up and check. Also, I will double check to make sure she didn...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
It appears to be completely empty. Now, I suppose it's possible she could be WAY up in there. I didn't pick up the shell. But it's on its side, and I can see the entire opening and a good half inch in, and it looks empty. The parts are harder to identify... There's a leg or two andwhat MIGHT be part...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
As for getting Flame a friend, the only placearound here that I trust, (good quality, healthy) only has big ones right now. I only have a 10 gallon tank, with 6" substrate now, and I'm not sure that would work for a big guy. The place in town has babies but their tanks are completely inadequate, no ...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
Well....there's an update. Somehow, overnight, Flame dug under the two liter and I woke to findhim in with Gabby. Her shell is now empty and there is evidence of either parts, or I guess exo in there around them. So I'm assuming he ate her??? They've been together for art least 4 years, and NEVER co...

Re: New, and could use a bit of advice.
And I guess if Gabby turns out to be dead I'll be buying a replacement this weekend and starting the ISO process, so that Flame doesn't have to be alone for long. Is it recommended I assume to get a crab that is close in size to one you already have?
