Re: I don't know what to do about my one remaining crab

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Playsand, 6 inches. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Yes, closer to the left of the tank. Humidity is always ...

I don't know what to do about my one remaining crab

For Christmas 2015, I was allowed to get 3 hermit crabs. I ended up adopting the one's that belonged to a family friend. The poor things were kept in a wire cage with gravel and no salt water. When I first got them, I was sure to try to properly care for them. 6 inches of play sand, salt and fresh w...

Re: ANOTHER surface molter?

Thanks for all the info! I'll be getting to the petstore to get some gauges and better saltwater conditioner. I'll also try to add more protein and calcium to their diet and feed less comerical food. I'll also replace the sponge with a shell have that's way too big for my crabs. No one but me ever i...

Re: ANOTHER surface molter?

1. Quikrete playsand. It is a little over 6 inches deep. 2. No. (I know, I know. Shame on me) I used to before they broke (they were REALLY cheap and didn't want to stick to the tank with all the humidity.) When I did have them it was 75-95% humidity depending on how long ago I refilled water bowls/...

ANOTHER surface molter?

Soon after Bandit finished molting, my other crab Pat did a surface molt. All is well, he's hardened up and back in the main tank, but I am really confused on why my crabs won't dig down. Anyone have any ideas? I posted something similar when Bandit first molted.

Re: Terrrible Hermit Crab Kits(Amazon)(Pic heavy)

Man does it bother me to see these. :( Some of them were almost $50 too! You can easily buy a ten gallon, 50 lbs of play sand, AND shells, huts, climbing toys, ect for under $50 (I know I did)! The poor hermies that have to live in these things. :crybaby:

Re: Dig up molters or leave crabs behind (only a week)?

Thanks for all the support. I think I'll be moving the "normal" crabs back and forth with two tanks (kept at constant humidity, temperatue, ect), then asking someone to monitor/feed any molters, only because no one wants to lift over 50 lbs back and forth every week, plus the guinea pig and everythi...

Re: Dig up molters or leave crabs behind (only a week)?

That might work, if the only possibly issure is that the tank weights over 50lbs because of all the wet playsand. It's like a 15-20 min drive.

Dig up molters or leave crabs behind (only a week)?

I'm just planning ahead here and am just curious. I hate to reveal things about myself online, but in the future I will be spending every other week in one house and the other weeks at another. I'm thinking of setting up a tank at each house and carrying them back in forth in a small iso (very breif...

Does all the exo need to be eaten put crab in the main tank?

I had one of my crabs do a surface molt a little over a week ago. I put her in an iso under a coconut shell hut. Today I noticed she was hanging out outside of the hut, her shell seemingly fully hardened. She still has a tiny bit of her exo left though. Should I put her back in the main tank or shou...
