Showoff molter
One of my little tribe decided to molt right against the tank glass this morning! How cool! He's about six inches down in the sub, freshly molted, all slick and light pink with the exo intact next to him. If you look closely at the photo you can clearly see one of his shield legs with the pointy nai...

Little cutie pie
Everyone was out and about in the tat last night having a great time. It was like a little crabby Rave. I was up until the wee hours of the morning working on their new 55. Had such a good time watching them do their thing. This is Eggs, one of my littlest guys. Thought this was an adorable pose. ht...

Re: Let the 55g build begin!
Thanks Form, aussie and Sweet Pea. I'm curious to see how this turns out too. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] Finally a little more time to work on the tat! Got the UTHs on the back and one side. Insulated the back with 2" of foam insulation covered with two layers of heavy duty aluminum foil on t...

They're in a 29 right now. Hopefully the 55 will be up and running by next weekend.

Last night's 10 PM planning session
A few of my tribe having a meeting before they go off and trash the tat. "Okay, listen up. Here's the plan for tonight. Chip, you go to the upper level shell shop and fling all the shells onto the ground. Chowder, you go empty all the water out of the salt water pool. Gumbo, you go pull up all the p...

Re: Let the 55g build begin!
Today, the climbing wall went in. It's plastic hardware mesh secured on all sides to the corner guards so crabbies can't get behind it. There's about an inch of space between the mesh and the back wall, so the tribe can climb to their heart's content. I can also hang plants or attach bark without bl...

Re: Let the 55g build begin!
Thanks lemonlime, Asheka and Crabinski! I've done woodwork projects before, but nothing to this scale. I designed it on SketchUp and went from there. I'm happy about how it turned out, and it didn't cost me anywhere near $600+ to get a nice oak stand. And Crabinski, I think we're compulsive kindred ...

Let the 55g build begin!
After quickly going from a 10g to a 29g, The Addiction had me perusing CL for a 55. I found one for a good price, but needed a stand. We wanted something that would match our living room furniture, but anything of even decent quality would have cost several pints of blood and my everlasting soul. So...

Re: Naples and Deltona orders
I didn't see anything on Deltona's site saying they didn't cater to the crabby crowd. They list shell size and "crab opening" measurements for some of their turbo shells, others just list shell size. If this batch is any indication, they don't take the "crab opening" measurements too seriously, as s...

Naples and Deltona orders
I just ordered some shells from both of these places and wanted to jot a review for anyone who was thinking of ordering from either place. Ordering was easy, and both orders arrived promptly and in well padded packages. All of the shells were in perfect condition. For the record, I did NOT indicate ...

Wow Calla, either that's the teeniest crab I've ever seen, or one huge shell. [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

Re: normal for humidity gauge to fluctuate a lot?
I used two layers of Glad Press and Seal wrap on top of the screen in my 10 gallon iso. It's lightly sticky, so it stays on the screen just fine, but doesn't endanger a climbing crab. It does a great job keeping the humidity in, and is also translucent, so light can get in. I used a dome lamp with a...

Tiny crab Getaway
This is where I found Fritter when I was doing a tank check this morning. I guess it pays to be the smallest crabbie in the tat. I love this little dude. He always makes me laugh.

Re: Woo hoo!! Happy mom!!
You are soooo right hermieluv. We got hooked by just stealthily watching Crabcakes do his thing around his tat. They're such charismatic little beasts. Next thing I know we've got another tank and five more crabs, then we bought the 55 and I'm having a great time trying to come up with oodles of cra...
