I have one of those temperature strips on the outside of the glass over the substrate and it reads that way too. We just need little cameras and thermometers everywhere. The crabs figure we are big eyed monsters spying on them anyway.

Do they need to be bubblers in water or can the hose from the pump be putting air into the environment itself?

Has anyone wondered what the air composition is like in the crabitats. We keep them covered to keep in the humidity and the crabs. Has anyone ever put a thermometer probe in the substrate to see what the temperature is like? We keep the above ground environment just SO I wonder what the conditions are like in the catacombs.

It would be so cool to set up a CrabCam and then get to watch the tapes in the daytime. Unfortunately setting up any sort of Camera on the computer sets you up for nasty sorts getting into your computer.

None of the crabs are back up yet. I bought a little crab figurine from the fish section at Walmart and he is sitting on the hidyhut. Now a smiling face in the middle of the Crabitat. If he sees his shadow does that mean 6 more weeks of winter?
