Re: Fungus/Mushroom growing in the substrate?
Alright LadyJingly I see that the real solution is a become a full time stay at home crab mom. I will try the vinegar misting Rawrgeous suggested next time I can go home, hopefully it works. I'm wondering how it even got there, and underground only and just one corner. I have fed them store-bo...

Fungus/Mushroom growing in the substrate?
So I've been away at college lately and my mom has been feeding/giving the crabs fresh water. I come home about once a week and check on them and clean up the tank. I am seeing weird fungus growing in one corner of the substrate that wasn't there a week ago. They almost look like little mushrooms bu...

Re: New crab resurfaced after a couple months shelless, mite
Update: She is doing great! I've moved her into the main tank now. At first she didn't move much other than hiding in her shell, so I kept placing food right next to her. She is much more active today and actually crawled across the tank. I'm watching her attempt to climb into the side of the salt w...

Re: New crab resurfaced after a couple months shelless, mite
They weren't attached but they were all over her eyes, crawling really fast around them. I've never seen any of my other crabs have mites on them like that, and they've never come in contact with this crab. They don't really seem like food mites, I was observing the mites in the bath water and they ...

Re: New crab resurfaced after a couple months shelless, mite
The mites had been crawling all over her eyes so I'm sure they were the bad kind, they're reddish colored too. Do you mean in a closed Tupperware container or just one flipped upside down on the sand? Okay update: I've placed her in a very barebones container, with fresh and salt water in small dish...

Re: New crab resurfaced after a couple months shelless, mite
I have food mites sometimes but these were much faster. I've just checked again now and she has left that shell and gone back into her hole. She seems to be moving her legs around more and just a bit more alert. I wasn't sure if I did the right thing but I slid her into a smaller shell and but her b...

New crab resurfaced after a couple months shelless, mites!!
Nothing like this has ever happened to one of my crabs before and I'm in a full out panic mode. I'm not sure this crab is going to make it. It's one of two E's I got at a fair out of pity. They're in a 20g tall tank with 6" sand mixed with Eco earth, it's my iso tank. So I got them in May, one was s...

Re: "Prepared" Shredded Squid
Yeah you're probably right, this stuff should probably just go straight to the bin. I'd rather not chance it.

"Prepared" Shredded Squid
So I got this sort of dried squid snack from a Japanese Market. I was intending to try it for myself but frankly it's horribly fishy smelling and tasting. I figure the crabs would probably like something like this but I'm not sure if all of the ingredients are okay. Here is the list of ingredients: ...

Crab flicking another really hard?
So I know crabs like to push and flick eachother to establish pecking order and all... but how hard are these flicks supposed to be? My large crab basically punched my medium one with his bp and sent her back a few inches. I've also seen him flick her off of branches numerous times, seemingly quite ...

Re: 7/8 Crabs Buried For Extremely Long Time (please help!)
What type of substrate do you use? Some kinds like calci-sand for reptiles can clump together and harden when wet, and make it difficult for molting crabs to dig back up to the surface. Some other info would be helpful as well, such as your tank size, humidity level, and the depth of the substrate. ...

Re: College Students
I'm currently in college too, but for the time being I'm able to still live at home. I'll be transferring in a year though so I'm not too sure what I'll be doing with the crabs. If I have to stay in a dorm then I'll probably keep the crabs at home. If I can afford an apartment then I'll try to take ...

Re: Is 4 too crowded for 20g?
Yep, I cleaned the whole shell out, she definitely couldn't have been in there, the sand was packed pretty tightly into it. Playing with my other two crabs has made me feel a bit better.

Re: Is 4 too crowded for 20g?
Yea you're probably right. I'm not 100% sure she was eaten but all three crabs had gone down to molt at the same time and that one just never came up. There was never any fishy smell so I just decided to wait it out for about 4 months, still nothing. I've dug around a bit but still haven't found her...

Re: Is 4 too crowded for 20g?
I would like to upgrade my tank to a 40g sometime in the future, I'm just not sure when I'll be able to. I had originally planned on getting 2 or 3 small crabs at first. But when I saw that large E with his broken and horribly painted shell I just couldn't turn away, and I knew nobody else would cho...
