Type of Peanut Butter

I know that you can feed hermis peanut butter... But what brand. (what brand do yours enjoy?) :)

Re: Does more crab poop mean a crab is healthy?

All of these posts were helpful but even after watching the video, I am still having a hard time finding poop! Is this normal when you use echo substrate? Should I be concerned? We have two crabs ands we have had them for a month.

Crabitat Feeling Cramped

Below is a picture of our first Crabitat, 10g terrarium for two medium hermi's. We feel we have the essentials but it's a bit cramped. We would like your recommendations on making it more suitable for them. The right side of the picture was cut-off (this is not my strong point), the dish on the righ...

Re: Molting in the substrate - Need your thoughts

I forgot to ask one very important question....with Pancake molting down below, what is the best way to clean the tank? Is it ok to surface clean? I would like to keep it clean for Cookie Dough.

Re: Molting in the substrate - Need your thoughts

I'm not sure what size your crabs are but wanted to say just in case or for anyone else who may be reading, 3-4 months under could be very normal for very large-jumbo crabs. Here's a great thread on molting that will help you to understand it better. http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic...

Re: Molting in the substrate - Need your thoughts

Thank you for your quick reply! You mentioned that we don't need to look for Pancake for 3-4 months. If this is correct, how do we keep the tank clean during such a long molt. Don't forget, we have Cookie Dough hanging out in the same space.

Molting in the substrate - Need your thoughts

We are new owners and wondering if this is normal... We have two crabs (type unknown), in a 10g tank. We brought Pancake and Cookie Dough home at Christmas. The first four weeks were all about trying to get the heat and humidity accurate (THANK YOU BONNIE!). No kidding, within 48 hours of getting th...

Re: Likes to lay against UTH

Thank you for your quick response! They were very active last night and Pancake (who sits next to the UTH - I got them mixed up) sat in the salt water dish for a few hours. Maybe getting ready to molt? Either way, it looks like I need to pick up a larger UTH and take off the small UTH's (which will ...

Likes to lay against UTH

We have a 10g tank with two 5g UTH's on opposite walls. Cookie Dough likes to lay up against the wall directly where the UTH is. Cookie Dough is not molting as the shell always shows and is active at night. I made the mistake of putting the UTH too low (the bottom lines up with the top of the substr...

Re: New Hermit Crab Owner - Not sure about environment

Bonnie, this was very helpful! I took a wet towel (ringed it out) and placed it over the top of the tank. Ran to the pet store to buy a glass top, in hopes that it will help with the heat. In the hour and a half that I was away, the humidity jumped up to 85! I replaced the metal mesh top with the gl...

New Hermit Crab Owner - Not sure about environment

Below is our environment layout that addresses your template questions followed by our questions: We have a 10g terrarium, small heater on side wall (PetsMart said it was for a 10g tank). The heating pad would not get the tank past 65 degrees so we purchased a 13v red heat lamp (runs 24 hrs. a day) ...
