Is this shell ok to use?
I ordered this from amazon and wasn't able to mention it was for a crab and it came with a large bump inside.
If its not usable as is, could I grind it off with a dremel? Its a beautiful shell and I'd like to use it some day.

Re: Need help determining new shell size
He didn't move into the tapestry shell last night, was really hoping he would before he goes down.
I did order a couple new turbos, maybe he'll like one of them better. Thanks for help.

Re: Need help determining new shell size
Thanks, I'll check the links. I did some looking and found a couple bigger shells, one is around 1.25 and he is checking it out now. Hopefully he'll switch and I can see how well it fits so I can order the right sizes.

Need help determining new shell size
I just got this fellow and I need to buy some new shells in a hurry. I'm not quite sure what size he might need. I'm thinking 1.5? suggestions where I can find large, reasonably priced shells in the US would be great too. Thanks

When do molters pick a new shell?
I've never really paid attention to when my crabs move into a new shell. They are all close to the same size and the shells I have are mostly the same. I do however have one crab that has stubbornly refused to change shells. If he molted, he put the same shell right back on. Lately he has been eatin...

Re: Keeping down weight in a large tank?
My house is 80+ yrs old and the basement doesn't have any walls, it's a small open dirt floor type.
I might be able to put up a couple braces, if not, I'll just stick to my 30 gallon tank.
Thanks for the advice.

Keeping down weight in a large tank?
I have a empty 75 gallon aquarium that would make a great crabitiat but I worry about the weight in my old house that has a basement, wouldn't want it to fall through the floor. Any way to reduce weight while providing deep enough substrate?

Re: food dishes?
I only have two, the oyster and one that I think is a scallop. Every time I wash them, they feel slimy and I only leave them in the tank for 24 hours. I guess the crabs don't mind, they seem to really like the oyster shell, maybe I should get some more. Crabs eat oyster shells - it's a good source ...

food dishes?
What do you use for food dishes? I've been using different kinds of flat sea shells or a oyster shell but I wonder how sanitary they are. Would plastic be better?

Re: Sow bugs/pill bugs/ Rollie pollies?
I've always wanted to keep pill bugs but never had any reason to, now I have an excuse
Its still cold here with snow in a few places & freezing temps at night but I was able to find a few pills under a flower pot on the warm side of the house.
