Re: Crabitat 2.0

Argh thought anyone would be able to see the pic... though flickr is free to join.

Yeah - sponges - I did remove them! I was boiling them to keep them clean but yeah doesn't make sense. I put little stones inside the dishes so they can't drown.

Re: unsafe commercial food list - another item

Whoah - weird... did some one just update the list? I just copied it this morning and it used to say: The preservatives and harmful ingredients that everyone should be looking out for in commercial foods are artificial color, by-products, copper sulphate/sulfate, ethoxyquin, ferrous sulfate, foods c...

unsafe commercial food list - another item

I just wanted to add that the Zoo Med Hermit Crab Crunchies is also unsafe, but I didn't see it on the list. Any hope of adding it some people don't mistakenly buy it in the future? Zoo Med Hermit Crab Crunchies (Land Crab Peanut Treat) Ingredients: Peanut Meal , Whole Shelled Peanuts, Ground Lima B...

Re: I can't Tell if Sharkbait is dead or molting

How is Sharkbait doing? Don't feel badly, you are trying to do what you can for him! Have you tried giving some hard-boiled egg with some shell? I put a little out last night and it was ALL GONE this morning, though the shell was mostly left and dragged off the food dish... Try to be calm and send h...

Re: Shell store inside crabitat... and pillbug q

Great stuff... I managed to grab 3 more rolypolys this morning, 3 "albino" isopods (I think they are wood lice?) and 3 springtails. I gotta research the different types... Oh and two tiny millipedes. One albino was in the middle of a molt! :o I'll try to post a pic later. Apparently they molt the ba...

Re: the case of the disappearing crab... and a molter?

Haha, love it. Love hearing everyone's thoughts and experiences.

Hashtag still underground and Invisible Dude still... invisible. I don't mind waiting but I have this terror in the back of my mind that in a few weeks or months I'll wake up to find a freshly molted and eaten hermit crab.

Re: Shell store inside crabitat... and pillbug q

Thanks, all. I went outside and grabbed 5 gray ones under the bricks that surround a tree in the front yard. A lot of leaves fall and so there's plenty of food for isos and I found a HUGE horde of springtails. I used to be scared to death of them but I'm ok now... I did notice the albino ones...

Re: 40G remodel & my crabs then and now (pic heavy)

And thank you I like it to! When I saw it I grabbed it, screamed and ran to the cash register. My friend stood there looking at me like I was insane. (Which, to be fair, I might be) Ahhh... so now if I see a similar item I shall do the same thing and henceforth we shall call it "going Erik over an ...

Re: Shell store inside crabitat... and pillbug q

Oh and just my opinion. When your harvesting I think it's probably easier to harvest them without scooping a lot of dirt around them. My kid kept throwing dirt in when we were harvesting them (he's little and was having a blast!) plus we were short on eco earth and moss so I used it as their beddin...

Re: 40G remodel & my crabs then and now (pic heavy)

Its actually fake. Any time i am at petco i go to their clearance rack (if its out) and search through it to see if there are any random/broken toys for cheap. That venus fly trap was a really good find. The Es LOVE perching on top of the trap parts and thing one will just camp out underneath them....

Re: the case of the disappearing crab... and a molter?

OK I have a confession to make. I freaked out and checked on Hashtag. I lifted her up and placed her near the food bowl and honey Q-Tip. She seemed a little dazed and totally uninterested in the food, she went into the back left corner and dug herself halfway down and now this morning there is no si...

Re: New to HCA

The cholla wood is so gorgeous. WOW what a fab tank!!! I only have a 15 gallon it took a certain amount of pre-organization to make sure putting everything in (with a 10 year old) wouldn't get too sloppy, so I can only imagine your 75 gallon and a toddler! Thank you for posting that pic, it gives me...

the case of the disappearing crab... and a molter?

It was a hot night, it was humid... OK, I totally bought a new crab today while buying some mealworms and mopani wood and stuff at PetCo. After giving "him" a salt bath I placed him gently in the tank and he crawled right into the ceramic hut where Herpo was chilling. He seemed to settle right in an...
