Finally got a photo of the underside of one of my crabs. Can't really see the bottom of the third pair of legs for the gonades. Noticed this lump though it's kind of clear. Any idea what it is? I verge on the side of too much sand. Used to have too much coco and it got kinda sloppy/moldy. I have the same size tank 36x18x18 and that came up to 2 bags of play sand and 2 bricks of coco for the perfect mix. Enough to keep the sand moist but not soggy.

In the dream world of designing your ideal crabitat, you often can’t predict how the crabs will take to your version of “ideal”. I’m just concerned that if I take the ramp out they’ll get stuck and can’t get out. I don’t want to risk it, but I can’t really experiment with much until the ramps are out.

I just did something similar with acrylic. The glass on a normal tank is about an 1/8 inch (idk what that is in mm) but large tanks can get up to 1/2 inch. I think when I’m able I will be adding two more hermit crabs for a total of 5. Do you think that’s appropriate given the new tank set up?

I set up the tank out of impatience. I gave up on the tanks for now but will be remaking them once quarantine is over. I instead used 2 of my extra 2.5 gallon as water tanks with egg crate as ramps. Looking at the chemical you sent we did try to use the number 3 as a sealing layer under the silicone, but the gaps were just to large. This is because it’s heat bent at the bottom 4 seams so the 4 side seams are gapped. I wonder if #4 would do the job.
