Sexing/ what is this lump?
Finally got a photo of the underside of one of my crabs. Can't really see the bottom of the third pair of legs for the gonades. Noticed this lump though it's kind of clear. Any idea what it is? What size is this crab?
Have had this crab for 4 years now, wondering what size it is. This is not the crab fully sprawled out (he's a shy one). Wondering if you can tell from the shell. The container is 5 inches wide, and my hand for comparison.. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210806/f83dca57c8cb01eb495142bb838b02f7.j...

Re: Stupid question
I verge on the side of too much sand. Used to have too much coco and it got kinda sloppy/moldy. I have the same size tank 36x18x18 and that came up to 2 bags of play sand and 2 bricks of coco for the perfect mix. Enough to keep the sand moist but not soggy.

Crabitat Showcase: pros & cons. Sharing what I’ve learned.
In the dream world of designing your ideal crabitat, you often can’t predict how the crabs will take to your version of “ideal”. This takes some time to really realize what is useful to the crabs and what is just taking up space. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210805/95c02fadaa56dbcfc8fdc27e6b6a...

Re: Deep water pool with no ramp??
I’m just concerned that if I take the ramp out they’ll get stuck and can’t get out. I don’t want to risk it, but I can’t really experiment with much until the ramps are out.

Deep water pool with no ramp??
I’ve have been using 2.5 gallons with ramps as water sources for 4 months now. Only 1 of my crabs used these ramps. I recently added a piece of driftwood that lays over each tank and reaches into each tank. I haven’t seen the crabs enter the water that way, but they hang out on the top part a lot. T...

Re: A couple questions
I just did something similar with acrylic. The glass on a normal tank is about an 1/8 inch (idk what that is in mm) but large tanks can get up to 1/2 inch. With the braces you’ll probably be good with 1/8-1/2 inch. If you’re using glass you can use silicone to seal it. But with acrylic the silicone ...

Re: My crabs never chirp
My crabs chirp occasionally. I’ve seen them chirp at other crabs when they are far away from in the tank. I often wonder if they miss each other. (Two of my crabs are bound at the hip). The most notable time was when I only had two crabs and one was molting. The crab that was up would chirp all nigh...

Re: Crabs in moss pit all day
Thank you! I can tell they are enjoying it, just seems so excessive.
Yeah now that you say that it almost seems like “home base” or a nest

Crabs in moss pit all day
I recently redid my crabitat and added a moss pit. I kept the moss dry. Since the crabs discovered it they don't seem to want to leave. They sit in there all day and I don't see any activity. I have noticed they are still eating their food though. Is there any reason they may stay there? I have my h...

Re: 50 gallon build
I think when I’m able I will be adding two more hermit crabs for a total of 5. Do you think that’s appropriate given the new tank set up?

Re: 50 gallon build
I set up the tank out of impatience. I gave up on the tanks for now but will be remaking them once quarantine is over. I instead used 2 of my extra 2.5 gallon as water tanks with egg crate as ramps. Here is the new 50 gallon: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200427/290088d05ff96f28f57eb618a542cff4...

Re: 50 gallon build
Looking at the chemical you sent we did try to use the number 3 as a sealing layer under the silicone, but the gaps were just to large. This is because it’s heat bent at the bottom 4 seams so the 4 side seams are gapped. I wonder if #4 would do the job.
