Re: KY, NC, SC, TN Adopters
Charleston, SC I live in downtown Charleston and current have two hermies and would be able to take one or two more. I have had them for over 2 years now. They have come with my from Virginia, to Michigan, to South Carolina! They have a lovely tank with deep, sand-EE substrate, two pools and plenty...

Quail eggs?
Can you feed quail egg shells to hermies? I recently bought a bunch and enjoy them a lot, but I'm wondering if they're okay for feeding like chicken egg shells are

My crabs are afraid of me? :(
I love my two little guys to pieces, and I love watching them move around, eat, etc. One is usually burrowed down and I barely ever see them, but the other likes to move around a lot. (On that note, do you think I should get a third, or is a pair alright?) Every time I get near the terrarium, she st...

Re: New and Improved Crabitat!(Tell me what you think?)
I'm glad to hear you think the new habitat is adequate :) Also glad that coconut fiber is okay. It just seems that everyone here uses some mixture of sand, I feel like the odd one out! I added a bunch more substrate to get it to 6 inches. The small one went right for it but the big one still seems t...

Re: Okay to use wood from backyard?
The prevailing opinion seems to be that pine is no good, so I kept it out. Thanks for the advice! I used some cut up wicker to give them a climbing medium instead

Re: New and Improved Crabitat!(Tell me what you think?)
Also, a few more things! Two PPs live in there and they seem to like to burrow a lot. I got a lot of activity out of them a few days ago, they were walking around, eating, climbing, etc. But now they're both under the dirt and seem to move very rarely, is this normal? The only thing t...

New and Improved Crabitat!(Tell me what you think?)
Hello again crab people :crabblush: So based on the recommendations I got from my last thread, I have updated my crabitat! I'm still new to this though, and I would like second opinions. Here's what it looks like now; http://pre11.deviantart.net/4e5f/th/pre/i/2015/082/8/4/hermyhab_by_cryophase-d8mvq...

Re: Okay to use wood from backyard?
Would really like an answer on this xD
And also if it's not okay to use, are there any ways you'd recommend for sterilizing the wood or anything?

Okay to use wood from backyard?
Hi guys! I expanded my crabitat to make room for climbing space, and I found a great little dead branch to use from my backyard. The only trouble is, I'm worried if introducing something from outside might hurt the crabs, whether by introducing fungus, other parasites, or some chemical in the untrea...

Re: New Crab owner! Would love tips! :)
Hi everyone! So unfortunately I won't be able to get a large tank for a little while longer, so I'm going to have to make do with the one I have. It's a combination of money and family issues :? Anyways, the things I was able to get are what I thought were the most important. I got a ceramic heating...

Thanks!KellyCrabbieLove wrote:I just want to welcome you to the HCA.
One more question before I go back to the store, should I get more hermit crabs? Is 2 enough for one tank or do they like bigger groups? I see a lot of people with so many more than I have

Re: New Crab owner! Would love tips! :)
Oh and if I did use a heat lamp, I don't think it would be very good because they're nocturnal animals, it would keep them up, and the temperature would have to go down at night.
So, what's the best option, heating-wise?(assuming I'm getting that 10-gallon glass tank)

Re: New Crab owner! Would love tips! :)
Looks like the nearby Petsmart should have a 10-gal tank for about $13, which sounds pretty good to me. I'll stop by tomorrow and pick one up along with some salt :) What would you recommend for heating? I have a lamp I used to use for my mantis that works just as well as a heat lamp, and it kept hi...

Re: New Crab owner! Would love tips! :)
Hi there! You're right, it isn't an aquarium, it's actually a faunarium originally used for a tarantula. The dimensions are 18 x 11.6 x 5.9 inches(I'm not sure how much that would be in gallons?) The water dishes are pretty shallow and I doubt the big one could fully submerge herself. The small one(...

New Crab owner! Would love tips! :)
Hello all! I am a new crab owner and I want my babies to live a happy, healthy and long life, so I'm looking for tips and criticism. First off, I have two.
