Re: Moving Help
Unfortunately my last move was a quick strained one. So not much execution. This time I was planning to buy totes and when I saw a crab up move it to a tote, being sure they had water and food and not too many per tote. But what if I come across molters?

Moving Help
I'm not sure where this topic properly goes but I'm moving in a month. Last time I did not do it "properly" and lost quite a few crabs. Does anyone have any advice on how to move with hermit crabs?

Re: For those with false bottoms!
Do you have a humidifier? Just doing it on the one side should be fine, however I would reccomend in doing both sides. Just in case something happens or you want to "switch up" the bowl placement your free to do so without worrying. I've never had a false bottom, but hopefully I can give some ideas...

For those with false bottoms!
I'm about to redo my dual 60gal and install false bottoms. I get how they work and how to do them but I have questions for those with them. I read the emergency post about a crab getting through and wanted to know how those with false bottoms evaded that? Also wondering if I should do a false bottom...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing
The tides were so low I found a pocket of clams right on the shore!! I don't eat seafood so I just grabbed a couple for my hermies and added it to their buffet. https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14045942_10205562412979211_7450571630473909280_n.jpg?oh=82b207fadffc5428f2bc5198dcde9c1d&oe=5...

Re: I don't understand.
I'm about to redo my dual 60gal and install false bottom on side. Was it just the crabs lifted the side?? Any tips for my first false bottom?

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing
The recipe notes are a really good idea, @DinoJax! Guess I'm too lazy to have more than one base mix to which pinches of other items are added on a rotating basis. As there are only two crabs up right now (and neither is interested in food at the moment...I'm shocked!), I have time to work on some ...

Homemade food mixes!
I just finished my food stock for a while! Homemade dehydrated fruits and veggies mix. And different grains, seeds and nuts. I make up three different mixes I cycle through so my crabbies get variety! I also add dried seafood and other proteins and powders to the foods. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net...

Re: Make you're own food? I have a question.
I was mostly trying to find out if absorbic acid in these amounts is bad for crabs.

Re: Make you're own food? I have a question.
The book for the dehydrater I'm using said it did both. But does not say really by how much. I'll probably do just a pineapple soak since I dry pineapple anyway.

Re: Make you're own food? I have a question.
Yeah I've done apples in teeny tiny cubes and they stayed a bit soft. Pretreatment the foods is supposed to help save nutrients lost in the dehydration process. I make a lot to last me about a year or so for my crabs but I'd like to have as high of nutrients as possible.

Make you're own food? I have a question.
I've been dehydrating fruits and veggies for my hermit crabs. I've never done a pretreatment on them before. Does anyone know if absorbic acid-citric dips are safe? I know I can just do a lemon or lime dip but absorbic acid is stronger.
