Re: Mixing different types of Marine Hermitcrabs
You most likely wont see local native marine hermits in a local fish store. Typically the common ones are blue legged hermits, red legged hermits, and some of the larger varieties like the thin striped hermit. On top of that you'd of course want a well established saltwater tank. To give an example ...

Re: Just bought another pp (pic heavy)
My pet smart has one tank of natural and one tank of painted they up charge for the painted by calling the crabs "fancy". I think the magpies are really cute and wish I could find some larger ones. Re: Can someone please tell me what type of marine hermie I
Yup. Thats a thin stripe. I used to have one in my older reef tank. Itll get large enough that you'll need a pretty big saltwater tank to keep him happy. Mine also liked to move all of my corals around. So he had to go to the fish store

Re: Large saltwater pool tips? And background
As someone who keeps larger marine tanks, please don't try to shove any marine life into such a small and shallow pool. With the debris crabs drag in, fluctuating temps, and evaporation, you will end up with a lot of dead things in the water. I would greatly advise starting a separate saltwater tank...

Re: Segrest
I asked on the Segrest website for all of the stores they ship to within 40 miles of my house. It listed 8 independent stores, 27 PetSmarts, and 39 Petcos. How likely is it that the PetSmarts and the Petcos are getting their crabs from Segrest? I did ask at my closest PetSmart (which is not actuall...

Re: Fish Experts?
Ive kept all types of fish in hard water. I live in Pflugerville (pretty much north Austin) and besides the darned neons.. Havent had an issue. Id toss on the canister filter and ditch the UGF. Depending on what canister filter it is.. You may be able to ditch all other filtration for it but I would...

Re: Man cave help¡
Look for some metal racks from Lowes. They have some that fit two 40g breeder tanks perfectly (one on each shelf/level) and with both filled are super sturdy. Thats what most breeders use in the fish hobby to hold tanks

Re: Fish Experts?
So pretty much once weekly you need to change out 10-20% of your water, you can achieve this by doing as you are, gravel vacuuming. When you are doing your water change, remove old mechanical filter pad and rinse it out using that dirty fish water you just pulled from the tank. When you replace the ...

Next time you take the water ask them to give you exact readings of the parameters. We use test strips to test customer water and they are notoriously inaccurate. Invest in an API master test kit, they are aweeeesssooommmeee lol The algae eaters, are they plecos, if so, what kind? If they are just "...

Re: Fish Experts?
I work at PetSmart and I fully endorse Prime as a water conditioner as unlike almost all other it detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate which will keep your fish safe during the initial cycle. In texas we have hard, alkaline water, so keep that in mind. My pH is consistently 8.2. Hardness is alwa...

Re: Conditions at Petco
Pretty much. I wouldn't let someone bring in an animal and let it mingle with our store animals. That would just be a bad idea all around. Even if a puppy if ditched at the store we technically are not supposed to like bring it in around us or where other dogs or animals are, as, you never know if t...

They are by far my favorite reptiles! I used to think they were so ugly.. Then babysitted TeeCee and CeeTee for a librarian over the summer.. Never gave them back and after she saw how much i loved and spoiled them she gave them to me back in 2011 CeeTee actually laid two eggs yesterday! Looks like ...

Re: Conditions at Petco
I work at petsmart. We take in adoptions but don't sell them. They go to new homes for free. :) Careful with that. Its against policy. For the reason of "outside animals not from the store have unknown pasts and unknown coditions and could possibly be carrying something that could spread to our ani...
