Re: Out of Shell!!
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Sand mixed with coco fiber, 6 inches deep 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read? Yes in the middle a few inches abo...

Out of Shell!!
I woke up this morning and discovered one of my crabs just sitting there out of her shell. She seems very lethargic. I'm not sure what could be wrong as in all recent days she has been active, climbing on stuff, eating at the food bowl, etc. There is food, salt and fresh water, good humidity and hea...

Re: Weird Glob on Crab
OH thank you!
And yeah his shell is really small I don't know why he won't pick a new one. I have tons of shells around the tank and plenty are his size, I've even seen him checking several out (feeling around inside etc). But he keeps staying in the tiny one

Weird Glob on Crab
There recently has been a weird clear glob on one of my crabbies. He/she is an ecuadorian and seems to be acting normally (digging, eating, water, etc). This blob is only on one side and he does not seem to have any limbs missing (thought at first maybe it was a gel limb?) Here are some pics. Any id...

Crab Punching behavior
So I'm just wondering about the behavior of my new crab, since everything else has been fine. He/she destressed under the substrate for a while when I got him and now he's been hanging out on the surface with one of my other crabs, Rory. They seem to be getting along fine. Except a couple of times n...

Re: Crab Aggression?
I actually don't know what real gender Amy is heh, she's very shy so I haven't been able to check for gonopores. I just picked female. Rory though I have been able to check (when he was climbing up the side of the tank) and is male for sure. But it's possible that "she" actually is male haha

Re: Crab Aggression?
There are lots of extra shells around, several at the right size for Amy. Humidity, food, everything is normal/available. So far I haven't witnessed any pinching, so that is good. So this is just normal dominance behavior?

Crab Aggression?
So I've recently had a few molters. Amy finished several weeks ago and Rory came up about 4 days ago. They were both fine together before the molting. I washed both of them after each came up. However, now that Rory is back up, Amy seems to be acting aggressively towards him. I keep finding her grab...

Re: Climbing and Getting Stuck
Okay thanks everyone! It's true, this time when I came home he'd gotten himself down. I guess I'll let him do his thing!

Climbing and Getting Stuck
So recently one of my hermies has discovered that he can use the seal in the corner of the tank to climb up and get up to the top of the tank. I have a lid on so he can't get out, but he seems to get stuck there like a cat up a tree. I though maybe if I put the climbing stick back under him (which I...

Homemade Clay Decorations?
This is kind of a weird question, but I was wanting to get some new toys/climbing structures for my hermies and I thought, what if I made some out of clay? It's Sculpey that gets baked to hardness in the oven. Would this be safe for hermit crabs to play on?

What happened?
So I was quite excited this morning when I got up to discover that one of my molters had returned to the surface! I gave him a quick dip in the fresh water and everything seemed fine. But as I was watching him move around I noticed that one of his back legs looked stumpy. Upon closer inspection it l...

New Owner of Hermies!
Hi! I have just recently become the proud parent of some hermies, about 2 months ago (though one joined the family just last weekend). However I hadn't discovered this forum till last week! I'm so excited there's such an awesome hermit crab care resource online. My hermies are 3 PP's, Rory, Amy, and...
