Help! Disturbed moulter
I have accidentally dug up a moulting crab - he had disappeared three months ago and has only ever gone down for 3 weeks so I thought he must've died and started to renovate the tank. Unfortunately (and I feel terrible) he was actually moulting after all. Having said that, I think that he was in a b...

Re: Evolution of a Crabitat
Looks fantastic, thanks for putting all those pictures up, they're really helpful; I'm in the process of setting up a tank. Can I ask the reason why you have raised the substrate off the bottom of the tank?

Re: Did I just dig up a molting crab!?!?
Hello! I am a new crab owner so don't purport to be any kind of expert AT ALL but both my crabs have just come up from molting - while they were buried I put a cuttlefish bone in their tank and they are demolishing it now that they've emerged - they love it. They also have a range of seeds, popcorn,...

Re: New crab has buried itself...
Thanks Nia The new one (the first one to bury itself) appeared for a couple of days and has buried itself again making itself a little cave underneath an ornament, but it's fine. The other one has also not come up again but its cave is underneath the food bowl which I've had to pick up when I'm clea...

Re: New crab has buried itself...
The new crab has emerged after two weeks... I am very happy! It's hard to see what kind of condition it is in because it's pretty dark in the room and I don't want to slam the lights on so will try to get a better look tomorrow. Hopefully it's wearing a fabulous new exoskeleton or is really chilled ...

Suitability of Quartz Sand
Hi folks Sorry to pose a question about sandy substrate because I know the last question I asked has also been asked about a thousand times - I'm a nervous new crab-mum! I did a search on this forum and found some references to the suitability or not of quartz as a substrate but all I got was confus...

Thank you for your responses! I'll try to not stress about it now! Hopefully it'll come up soon.

New crab has buried itself...
Hi folks I'm a fairly new hermit crab owner and I added a new crab to the tank a couple of weeks ago. There is already one crab ('Turbo') in there who is quite active. The new crab chose a new shell after 24 hours and shortly thereafter buried itself in the substrate. It has been buried for coming u...
